No magnet on my filter
Hi gang,
I'm in the process of changing my transmission fluid, my first time. It is probably the 2nd time for the rig. We are at 79,000 miles.
I have the Allison 1000 series on a Workhorse chassis. I removed the filter and found no magnet. How serious a problem is that? How do I get a replacement, if indicated?
Thanks,
Bruce

We carry them at work, get them from a GM dealer, won't be back to work till Monday, so don't have the part number with me.
But you should be able to get one easy enough.

Hi Partsman,
Thanks for the reply. I'll call our local GM service tomorrow. Now my concern is getting a new one in. I had to refill the transmission with new fluid to move the unit. Do you have any idea how much fluid is lost when you just remove and replace the filter?
Thanks,
Bruce

Sorry, been busy, did not get time to look here, anyway the magnet number I have from here in Canada is a #29535617 and we use a filter #29539579 and one of our mechanics says you don't loose much at all, but you have to be fairly quick, spin off filter be ready with magnet, I guess put magnet on filter and reinstall.

Good morning Parstman01. Thanks for the numbers. I'll make a note to help me run down the magnet. I called the local GMC service and was quoted $12 for the magnet which they didn't have in stock. I'm leery of their prices. They had previously quoted me $55 for a filter that our RV dealer quoted me $32 on and for which I paid $14.50 (for a Fleetguard brand, International Truck's brand). I think a couple more calls might make sense.
Thanks again,
Bruce

JucenBrudi,
Check with Oemy- He's got 'em. About $8 shipped.
Good luck,
