No Transmission Temp

The temp gauge is not working on our Country Coach. Dash gauge is stuck on about 120 and Silverleaf is showing 0. Iíve checked it numerous times with my temp gun and the highest Iíve seen is a little over 150. Not sure how to troubleshoot this one. Everything else seems to be fine. Shifting is fine. Just no temp. It is a 3000MH. Any suggestions?

Make sure the wire is attached to the temp sensor on the trans. Had mine get knocked off once ans got some wacky readings

I knew you were going to ask!
It has been awhile since I have crawled under the coach but I think it on the pax side towards the rear of the case. . IIRC, it measures temp of fluid coming out out before going to the cooler.

This is the one that runs the dash gauge. It will have been installed by the coach maker, not Allison. It should be located near the transmission in the hose that goes to the transmission fluid cooler near the radiator.

I thought that the Silverleaf got its input from the transmission's ECU but maybe your configuration is different.

That said, VDO temperature sending units should read about 700 ohms when cold and 22 ohms when hot. So if you ground the wire with the ignition on, the gauge should peg to the right (hot) and if you disconnect the wire from the sending unit it should peg to the left (cold).

You can google "VDO trouble shooting guide" (or similar) and turn up a PDF with more than you wanted to know.

FWIW
