Rough Downshift
Tranny (3000) on 02 Monaco has developed a rough downshift into 4th gear when climbing grades. Approx 72000 miles
Has anyone experienced this? What to do?

Hello - my coach also has a very, very rough 5th to 4th shift under full throttle conditions. All other shifts are perfect. I have Allison check it out and they say there is nothing wrong. This means that there are no codes. I have 131k miles on our 02 Monaco Windsor.
I hope someone can jump in here with a few ideas.

Have you checked your fluid level in the tranny. With the 3000 you can check the levels with the selector pad. You probably already know this. My manual says the keypad is more accurate than trying to check the tranny fluid with the dipstick.

I'm curious if you have ever changed the transmission fluid and, if so, what fluid did you use?

I'd start by having the Transmission Adaptive Pressures (TAPs) reset and see if it adapts in well. You will have some bad shifts as it adapts back in.

I have a 4000MH. Started giving me rough shifts. Changed the speed sensor in the bellhousing and cured it.

Hello - Allison reset what they called Fast Adapt. No improvement. I like the idea of the speed sensor but wouldn't this affect all shifts or throw a code ???

Maybe. There are many variables that go into a shift. An Allison service center can use Allison service tools and look at this shift and diagnose it.
Does engine speed flair off (like slipping the clutch) before it bangs on? Does it bang on fast? Is it so bad it shakes the camper or just a noticeable irritation?

Same here - fast shift with a 'bang'. No flare.
