Spin on trans filter

I would like to replace the spin on filter on my 2500mh Allison trans. My question is do I have to fill it with fluid before I reinstall it.
Thanks in advance
Gary

We always have so that there's no need to top off the level after changing.

I change mine about every 5000 miles and have never filled it before putting it back onto the trans. Biggest "make sure" is to get the magnet that sits on top back in place before putting the new filter back onto the trans.

I recommend Allispn branded filters only.

I always fill the filter.

It's not necessary to fill the filter, but it certainly doesn't hurt anything to do so. As others have said, make sure you get the magnet, sometimes it sticks to the filter, sometimes it sticks to the filter threads on the transmission.

Changing the filter every 5000 miles is overkill, but again, doesn't hurt anything.
(I was an Allison Transmission Field Service Tech a few years back).
