If it doesn't pass the TES-295 spec it won't go in my transmission!

I am aware of the above. I was merely stating that Transynd has a tendency to turn a dark orange color as opposed to most other fluids, thus being a strong hint that it is Transynd.

You might but there are hundreds of others out there that don't so that's why I made the comment. Didn't mean to ruffle you feathers!

I agree. A lot of shops can quote Transynd as high as $70 a gallon, so maybe that was the case and why the Delvac seemed cheaper.

That's some of the problems with written communications. It's missing the inflection and body language that goes with face to face!

Hear is what I paid for TRANSEND FLUID $187.50 FOR 5 GAL/ $37.74 1 GAL. $9.375 qt, That is about the cheapest I could find locally. I bought from Inland Truck. they are an authorized Allison dealer. I can't find what I paid for the filter kit.

As we all like to save $$$'s, I have searched locally, within the south east and on the internet for Allison TES-295 approved fluid. The cheapest I was able to find is the International Truck Fleetrite Synthetic ATF (listed on the TES-295 fluids as well as noted on the container) at the local Landmark Truck dealer for $36.22/gal plus tax and NO SHIPPING.
Bought it today and did the first half of the drain and fill procedure today as I really needed to get this done before any trips this year.
Hope this gives another source for TES-295 approved fluid.

I did end up getting transynd from my local Allison dealer (paid $33.17gal) Found my 3000MH high cap filter Kit (OEM allison for $19 off ebay) that was a great deal . Did all the work myself...EASY with the info here and included in the kit. Dealer wanted $490 to do filter/fluid - I spent $240 and 1 1/2 hour of my time and didn't have to drive the coach there and back.
Thank you to everyone who posted info - I learned a ton and will certainly be back to tap into the vast wealth of information the forums members have to offer.

Ditto above. J&G can tell you if you need to change your fluid. There's a good chance it is still good and you could save $400! (If it ain't broke don't fix it!)

$8.66 per quart. 21 quarts went in. Total ATF line item on the invoice was $181.86.
Just to be clear, Freightliner is using the Mobile Delvac ATF in new chassis AT THE FACTORY as well as using it at the service center in Gaffney.

Mobile Delvac is an Allison approved TES205 fluid and I certainly would have no issue with using it. You had stated that it was half the price of Transynd and I was hoping for a better price. Transynd is readily available at around $38 per gal so the Mobile is marginally cheaper but it's not half price. Saving $5 per gal is a worthwhile savings so you did well. I'll look for the Mobile next time I change filters & need to top up.

Keep in mind that there is no such thing as Dexron III anymore. Manufacturers can only say it meets those standards.

The 2004 Allegro Bus did not come with Transynd from the factory. The Freightliner chassis came with Dexron III.
When I changed mine over to Transynd I did what Allison recommended and stuck with the non-synthetic service interval the first time. After you change it the second time you can go with the extended service interval because by now any Dexron III that is left is minimal.
