I am currently on a trip from Phoenix to Edmonton. Running north of Las Vegas through Montana there are a number of good grade changes. While travelling I am monitoring my Alladin system which reports transmission temperature. I notice I run between 172 degrees and 194 degrees. Is this considered normal? I am not pulling anything with us, outdoor temperature is between 50 and 90 degrees, the travel speed is between 60 to 68 mph.

Coming north out of Phoenix last year in 110* ambient my tranny got up to 205* during the climb and high 190's in traffic. I consider that normal.

DEpending on your coaches set up, you will have ; a trans oil to engine coolant, cooler, a trans oil to air cooler or both. With the common trans to engine coolant set up trans temp should be stable and slightly cooler than the engine temp, during level highway cruising. Max operating temp for synthetic trans fluid is 300, and your trans o'heat warning light will be on long before that.
