Ok how can you tell if you have TranSynd in your Allison? What color is it? Is that a good indicator?

If you have Transynd there should be a sticker by the transmission dipstick. It will say you have Transynd and only Transynd should be added.

What kind of chassis? Freightliner put stickers on them and you could also get the info from the Freightliner Help Line. Now I think they've switched to Dello, and I don't know how they're marking them.

My 2004 Monaco Sig has Transynd from the factory so if yours is a 2005 I would highly suspect it has Transynd already. I had Allison do a fluid analysis on the ATF and they also confirmed Transyd.

There could also be a sticker on the expansion tank.

I am feeling really lucky...I just bought 5 Gallons of TranSynd on eBay for $120 shipped. Now I can afford to have the RV changed over from the old petro-based fluid.

Some time around Jan of 04 Allison started requiring Transynd. Just by age alone you can almost be certain your 05 should have Transynd.

It's your call but I think if I had a 12 year old motorhome that was working good on dino type fluid I would be hesitant to switch over to a synthetic. Your seals may or may not be compatible. The extra detergent action might not be good, etc. etc. If it was mine I would probably stick with the recommended maintenance and fluids for when it was built. Just my humble opinion.

If you look at the fluid on your dipstick the synthetic fluid will have a yellow or gold tint to it.

The Allison Tran Syd fluid is red just like the old oil.

Switching the oil in an old Allison transmission to the new Tran Syd oil is the right thing to do. It greatly extends the miles and time between oil changes.

Allison recommends that after changing over, change it again within (I think) 18 months. Then after that you can run the recommended time for the synthetic oil. The issue is that with the first change you won't get all the old oil out.

Make sure to replace the filters with Allison's new Hi Capacity filters.
