I bought a few gallons of Transynd from an Allison place the other day to change my filters and I noticed that the color of the fluid in the containers is red. If I wipe my dipstick on a white paper towel the color of the Transynd in the tranny is a gold color. Have they changed the color in some new formula or does it change with age or what?
I would be very interested in knowing what color is everybody seeing both in there transmission and from a new container of Transynd. Thanks

You got my curiosity up so I went out and checked mine. The Transynd on my dipstick is gold, like you described. I have about a quart left in the container and it is red. It's the same Transynd I filled the transmission with two years ago. It must change color in the transmission.

About two month ag at an Allison transmission shop I asked if they could tell from the color if I had Dextron III or transynd and I was told they could not tell by the color.

I am feeling better. I was worried that maybe Allison put the wrong fluid in the container because of the gold versus the red. There is no doubt looking at all the paper towels from cleaning the parts when I changed the filters that the fluid is gold with a tinge of green in the transmission. Most ATF stays red in the tranny.

I have a 97 Windsor with 54k miles I bought last fall. I checked the trans fluid, it's red , does that mean I have Dexron? The person I bought from told me it was changed to Transynd about 1 yr ago, but it shows red on a rag when checking. There was 2 gal of Transynd in the coach when we got it and he said it was xtra from the change last year. I think I will change it now with Transynd and filters and go from here. I will know it's done. Wasting money???

If you read my post up above you will see that the new Transynd I put into my MH was red also and I could not tell which fluid by the color. Take some of that new Transynd in those containers and put it on a white rag and see what color it is and if it matches the color of what is in the transmission. Is there any reason why the previous owner would tell you wrong especially with those two extra containers there? Just to bring up a point here...when switching from Dexron to Transynd, Allison does not consider it 100% Transynd until after the second fluid change.

I can guarantee you do not have Dextron.

FWIW: My 2008 had a full factory fill of Transynd. I was surprised when I checked the dipstick and found the color to be fairly clear, rather than the cherry red that I am used to seeing in cars. I did a fluid and filter change at 3 years and 11K miles (Yes I'm anal). For a drain pan I used a clear plastic 48 quart "Sweater Box" from Walmart. Once the fluid was in the drain pan, I could see that it was indeed red, although much lighter in color than the "wine red" that I'm used to seeing. The good news for me was that there was no sign of burning or contamination in the old fluid or filters.

Thanks for the taking time to respond. I have no reason to think the previous owner would be less than truthful about trans fluid because that wasn't a make or break in the deal. I just saw the posters that have Transynd for sure, say thier fluid was goldish or slightly green in color. Mine is red for sure on the dipstick and red in the container. I think I will change now and know it is done.

After thinking about this, I have a thought. If a tranny had the red Dexron in it and then was changed over to Transynd, the color would probably turn a little red over time, This would be because of the parts in the trans were coated with the red stuff. You drain it out but there is no way the completely get all the red stuff out. When the new honey colored Transynd is installed and washes the red parts, it picks up the red color.

Read my top post. The color of the Transynd that I lost when I changed the filters was a light color maybe a reddish gold tint but it was NOT red like Dexron or the new Transynd. The new Transynd that I had bought from a Allision repair facility was wine red and looked just like Dexron. I know for a fact that my MH came from Monaco with Transynd because it had the label on the filler tube stating it had and that was in 2004. So one of two things.........Transynd changes color from wine red to a reddisg gold over time OR Castrol changed something in the making of Transynd that makes the newer Transynd more red. I wish they would make it blue or green. Anything but red. Then there would be no doubt about anything.

OK, this may have no bearing on things, but in years gone by if your tranny fluid was turning golden brown it was an indication of being overheated. Again this is from years gone by. Just some food for thought.

When I say reddish gold color there is no hint of brown and the fluid is clar and smells normal. No burnt fluid here. Good point.

I noticed the same thing. I sent a sample into Blackstonbe labs and the test result came back good. It is my understanding Transynd does loose its red tint over time mine was a golden orange color, The new fluid is red for now.
