Hello,
Does anyone know of a website that has the Allison MH3000 transmission filter kits.
Its time to do the Main and LUbe filter change and want to order them online.
Also a local truck parts store has a compatible baldwin filter kit for about $40.00 less. Anyone use baldwin filters? I'm thinking its best to stay with original equipement but who knows who makes the filters for Allison? Anyone know?
Thanks for any responses

Fleet Filters.com may have them, I think it might take a Wix 57740XE.

Hitchhiker,
Thank you for the links. I think you are right about the Wix number. Have any opinions on a Wix filter or should I stay with Allison OEM? Not sure if Allison makes there own or if some other company makes them.
Thanks again for your reply and the information.
Keith

I'd bet that Allison does not make their own filters and contracts with someone else to produce the Allison brand. Personally, since these filters are so seldom changed I'd just spring the extra bucks for an Allison - especially given their recent change from Allison Gold series to the Allison High Capacity series and a correspondingly very different service schedule. I'd make absolutely sure you get the Allison High Capacity series as many distributors are still working off the Gold series inventory. The change in service intervals will make this very worthwhile. More info on the Allison web site which you can get from this iRV2 thread: MH 3000/4000 Transynd 36 Month Maintenance

To play this game with a non-Allison branded filter you will have no idea which filter it really is or which service interval to use. Additionally, if there ever were an "issue" I'd bet Allison will be a lot more accepting if there was an Allison filter installed.

I'm with RVDude, for a couple of extra bucks just buy the Allison filters. I do and I also buy only Cat filters for my C-12. No they more than likely don't make them but they do recommend them. I just ordered my Allison filters from Inland Truck Parts in Texas. The price to my house including shipping was $51.09. These were the short ones for the MH4000. Their phone number is 1-800-999-8726. Marty

I agree with the above 2 posts. Especially if you are under warranty.

i remember reading on this forum about someone using an off brand filter and it disintegrated. i cannot remember for sure if it was an engine oil filter or transmission filter. i think it was a transmission filter.
when i replaced my allison 1000 filter, i used an allison from oemy. it has a space to re-install the round, washer like magnet on top of the filter. i don't know if that magnet will fit an after market filter without restricting the oil flow or leaking. that was enough reason for me.

Thanks everyone for your replies.
RVDude you make some very good points. I am going to stick with Allison and the newer high capacity filters. I used Allison when I did the 5000 mile main filter change.
Marty S. and tmitchell, thanks for the sites to order. I have the RV chassi parts bookmarked already but I didn't think of them. I will call them tomorrow. Every time I try to order on line it doesn't work so I just call them.
Thanks again for the posts.

I have personally seen aftermarket filters collapsed and sucked up against the bottom of the control module on the 3000 series transmission because they didn't have the capacity of the Allison filter.

I have also seen aftermarket filters removed from a transmission that was in for diagnosis that were plugged to the point when filled with solvent from the parts washer, the solvent would not drain out. They weren't collapsed yet, but obviously were not flowing fluid properly.

Is it difficult to change the transmission filter? I change engine oil and filter. Is the transmission filter any harder? Or should I leave it to the pros?

The filters are easy to replace. Be sure to use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts because they are easy to strip.
