Whistle noise at idle after warm up

Hi, new to forums, so sorry if I'm not up to speed....I have a 95, 40' gulf stream tour master, with an 8.3l turbo diesel and a six speed allison automatic transmission. After warming up and before shifting, there is a high pitched noise coming from the pan area of the transmission...just drove 1000 miles after purchasing it to get home with out any shifting issues, the fluid is nice and red and possibly a little over filled....

I am a retired cross country trucker, I would think it would be difficult to pin point the whistle to be in the trans oil pan. noise is deceiving. I have the same engine & trans in my 1999 Alpine. I would guess the noise you hear is from the turbo. We expecially hear this at an idle. Stop by a local truck stop where a truck may be ideling and see if this is the noise you hear. Cummins gas had a idle whistle in the turbo for many years. What I am describing is not a mechanical problem, its the nature of the beast. If this whistle is going down the road, it may whistle some and then quit when it shifts. If this is so, it is perfectly norman turbo boost noise. Under acceleration the whistle may get louder as the turbo is creating more boost, This is a good think. If I can be of more help, call me 314 610 2622

Normally a whistle noise means a vacuum leak.. HOWEVER on the Workhorse Gas models (I do not know about diesels in this respect as I drive a Gas model) there is a "Rushing" sound (my description) that might well sound like a whistle when the unit is at idle.

It is the fuel pressure regulator shunting excess fuel back to the tank,

I didn't realize the Cummins made a gas engine, when was that?
