Has anyone actually used Mobile 1 in their Workhorse Allison? I am strongly considering doing so.
Mine is a 1000. The Allison info I have states ATF suitable for C-4 is acceptable. Mobile 1's info states it meets Allison C-4.I know Mobile 1 is not on Allisons list of accepted ATFs but from what I see there is no reason not to use it. I am out of warrenty so that is no problem. Any help?

The Exxon/Mobil Synthetic Fluid is a TES-295 qualified fluid. I'm not at all certain about Mobil 1 however. I would call Mobil just to make sure.
You can check the Allison site for more info about synthetics.

I changed my 2001 Allison 1000 with 30,000 miles to Mobil1 about 2000 miles ago. No problems to report.

Here is the Allison publication for the 1000 transmission http://www.allisontransmission.com/servlet/DownloadFile...leToGet=MT4007EN.pdf. It states that Dexron III or TES 295 fluids can be used. It also states that only Transnd or TES 295 should be used which seems to be somewhat in conflict. I use Transnd in my 1000. It costs $30 per gallon and Mobil 1 ATF would probably cost nearly as much. Why in the world experiment, unless Allison tells you Mobil 1 is just as good as Transnd?

I switched Mobile 1 in my Workhorse/Allison at about 8,000 miles. Have about 30,000 on it now. Have used it for years and have no concerns. Its good stuff.

I emailed mobile and the TES 295 mobile only comes in 55 gallon drums. I guess that a agreement with gm TES 295 thing. I run moble syn from wallmart in my allison. Mobile would not confirm that it was TES 295 compliant Transend from my local workhorse service center is almost $50.00 gallon

Ron55,
Call around to some of your local truck supply houses. I got five gallons of TranSynd for 162.00 bucks, or they also had it in one gallon pails for about 30.00.
Also look up lubricants in your yellow pages. I called a Castrol distributor, and although he couldn't sell TranSynd, he did sell BP Autran, which is the SAME product with a different name. Same price about 160 for five gallons.

I posted info earlier on the new Transmission fluid, Dextron VI is not compatible with the seals and O rings in older Allison transmissions that were built before a changeover date. (Any that specify Dextron III) See pg 57 in "Rolling on"'s link... The TES 389 replaces Dextron III..because of the incompatibility. Good discussion here
