2012 Silverado Duramax/Allison Problems

Looking at a 2012 Silverado 3500 DRW Duramax/Allison with 118,000 miles on it to tow a fifth wheel. Any problems with the engine and transmission in a 2012? I understand some ealier years had a problem with injectors and emmision senors along with using DEF.

Thanks,

AL

"IF" it has been taken care of, it should last you a long time....If it has a "tuner" , or DEF delete" , then beware... I did "my" research before buying my 2015 Duramax... I still read forums, which usually you read about people with problems, not the thousands who love them.... Here is a short story of the "LML" Duramax,,, 2011-2016...
6.6L Duramax LML Specs & Information
Personally , (being a life long Mopar guy) , I Love my Chevy... Sure its only 1 year old,,, time will tell. Alisons are pretty much bullet proof... The DEF initial problems seem to have been fixed after the first year... (hopefully) From what I've seen so far, DEF cost is nothing...comparable to everday stuff.... Just beware when buying DEF of the exparation date !!!! It doesn't last forever,.
So far,,, I would make the same purchase again... It is the last "series" of this Duramax, 2017 being a new engine, so I figure they got the bugs worked out. Let us know how it goes.... 118K miles is really nothing if has been taken care of....

Thumbs up here on the LML DMax. Ours is a real solid performer. We tow close to 20K lbs. 5'r and typically run using the cruise control. Out west up hill and down it does very well. Smooth and level you'll appreciate the DRW. DEF consumption is about 2% of fuel used.

Be well.

2012 Silverado Duramax/Allison Problems

Thanks for the replies. I went to the link and read the review on the Duramax. Good information, just what I needed.
Yesterday, my wife and I looked at the Silverado and took it for a test ride. Nice looking truck with plenty of power. Clean in and out. Looked real good for four years old. The bed must have been repainted, looked like new. Only negative, no records. The dealer buys vehicles from Enterprise either directly or through the largest auction house in the country, Manhein, PA. He details them for sale at his lot.
Asking $32,000 with 118,000 miles. Might be a good truck, but with no records, I'll keep looking.
In 2007, I took a chance on buying a 1999 F350, DRW, 7.3 with a six speed from a private owner, no records. Not a one. It was a good truck. Had it for six years. Not sure if I would be this lucky buying another one with no records.

I would think 32K for a 2012 is ok,,, BUT,,, 118,000 miles is A LOT in 3 years !!! I think you are correct walking away with no records of maint or anything of the truck..... Keep looking,,, you'll find it ! Good luck and keep us informed please !

If you really like this truck, ask permission to take it to a GM service center for diagnostic check and fluid analysis. GM can detect a "footprint" within the ECM/TCM modules if it has had any modifications from a now-disconnected tuner or anything that modified the factory programming.
That mileage is nothing of concern IMO. When I sold my 02 Chevy duramax/Allison it had 148,xxx miles on it, over 80,xxx of which was towing a 15,500# 5er. It ran as good(perhaps better) as the day I drove it off the lot
The injector issue was with the LB7 engine of early years, ending in mid 04.

Ray,
Good idea, will keep in mind. Last week, I was talking with a farmer that had a 2002 GMC dually with 325,000 miles. He replaced the injectors and did the usual maintenance. Impressed.

I have a 2012 Dmax Crew DRW & only problem a bad glow plug on #8 & EGR valve, all under warranty. Neither a " leave you on the side of the road " problem, just remote start doesn't work with any check engine code.
Its a real workhorse & so much more powerful than the '03 we had. I'm just at 34000 miles but lots of towing as I only was a mile from my office.
I wouldn't have any records either as my dealer does all maint./oil changes but its all on thier computer & I think any GM dealer can search the VIN if dealer serviced.

Will keep that in mind. Being a leased vehicle from Enterprise, not sure who did the maintenance. If we get real serious, will ask. Good idea. Thanks.
