Conversion: use 5 sp or 6 sp?
I am getting very close to converting my coach from gas to Duramax. To do so I also need to change my transmission to an Allison 1000-2000 series. I have an '06 LBZ in the garage.
A 5 spd will result in engine rpm of about 2200 rpm at 65.
A 6 spd will result in engine rpm of about 1900 rpm at 65.
Coach weight will vary from 15,000 lbs to 18,000 lbs depending on if I am towing or not.
Which rpm would those of you that have run a Duramax in this weight range recommend as the target RPM?
Why?
Thank you,
