Question Conversion: use 5 sp or 6 sp?

I am getting very close to converting my coach from gas to Duramax. To do so I also need to change my transmission to an Allison 1000-2000 series. I have an '06 LBZ in the garage.

A 5 spd will result in engine rpm of about 2200 rpm at 65.

A 6 spd will result in engine rpm of about 1900 rpm at 65.

Coach weight will vary from 15,000 lbs to 18,000 lbs depending on if I am towing or not.

Which rpm would those of you that have run a Duramax in this weight range recommend as the target RPM?

Why?

Thank you,

I'd select the 6 speed, many advantages.

Would you expect a signficant MPG difference between the two rpms?

Also, I understand the TCM is more complicated for the 6 spd vs the 5 spd. Is this enough to discourage the 6 spd or not?

Based on a discussion at WWW.theDieselPage.com, I have decided to go with the 6 spd. Here is a link to the discussion http://www.thedieselpageforums.com/t...ad.php?t=34258

Thank you,
