I'd be very careful using a pump or funnel that I use for oils and other things for putting DEF in my tank. I wouldn't want to contaminate the system as it may cause it to shut down.

Def is good. And a bit better mileage. No harm, no foul, IMHO. Some folks seem to not appreciate the technology created to conform to regulations (that can't do nuthin about) and succeed.

J Birder - didn't know about tire step - gotta check that out.
Elf111 - I like the transfer pump but wonder about keeping it clean.
exgman- I feel for your dad. It isn't easy to get the DEF up in the engine bay and gets harder as our frames age. Glad he figured something out that works. That's why I started this thread - to find some ideas on making it easier. There are definitely some strong opinions on the mandated use of DEF but it is what it is and the emissions are cleaner. (catalytic converters were a similar pita). Just wanted to thank everyone for some really good ideas. Thanks.

Actually the transfer pump is quite small the whole thing would easily fit in a gallon size zip lock bag. For the price buy two or three and use for different liquids.

my 2011 gmc does not use much def. superlube top it off at oil change along with other fluids, I have not needed def in between

Oh for Pete's sake he's talking about a pickup truck, not a coach! Why must everything be about DP's???

On my Silverado, I just set the box on the engine and put the filler hose in the nozzle. You don't need to hold the box up. It will drain on it's own up to about the last pint or so.

The SCR system in these trucks makes deisel alot easier to live with - no smell and no soot. It's definately worth it. DEF is cheap at Walmart - I paid $8.68 for the last 2.5 gallon jug I bought - and that was regular price, not on sale.
