Well, not a duramax but it is a chevy

I had a problem with my 2008 chevy silverado 5.3 liter v8 with the active fuel managment system, driver information center said stabilitrac needs service and traction control needs service and the engine light started flashing. Pulled over right away and had it towed to service shop and they said the computer showed that it has a mis-fire on cylinder #1. The mechanic switched the plug from that cylinder to a different one to see if it would duplicate or see if he could isolate if it was the plug, wire, or coil pack. He could not get it to do it again, and said he drove it for 50 miles and said he could not get it to misfire again. Warranty runs out at 100,000 and it literally had 99,750.......My question is do I just keep driving and hope it doesn't happen again? What options do I have?

if you have not changed plugs, change them and see if you can get them to make a note on vehicle log in case problem comes back after warranty is out

I've encountered such a delaying tactic too. The Chevy service manager put me off for 3 weeks until the warranty expired, when I returned a week later with the same problem, he said "sorry warranty expired"; we can fix it for $xxxx. Document everything previously done to fix the problem, keep a record of every conversation (who said what-when). If the problem returns call the GM customer satisfaction center 800 number (in warranty book) and file a complaint. You will be given a file number for your complaint, which will be given to your dealer when the satisfaction center contacts them about your warranty claim.

If you report it before the end of the warranty it should be covered until that issue is resolved. They cannot just "run out the clock" on you.

I would completely agree with Ray,IN.....You would think you are covered, because something made the computer issue those warnings....but the dealer didn't find anything...

A lot depends on the dealer. I had a 2002 Chevy 1500 with 41000 miles on it. Did everything warranty book said. Warranty was only 36000 back then. Going over a bridge on day had hard time getting truck to pick up speed. Parked truck and called service dept they told me to bring it in. Tried to back up and found I had no reverse. Got to dealership told service manager and talked to my Rep I brought it into. They tore it apart and said it had to be replaced. Because I had all service work done when needed they replace transmission with new one cost me $100 is was glad I had all service work done. Have a good relationship with your service Rep and service manager along with sales person.
