The reason for removal is that this unit is not CARB approved, and I couldn't get it smogged to comply with CA law. I am now experiencing excessive soot buildup at the tailpipe and degraded fuel mileage - average about 5MPG less than before. I have always used Rotella T6 Synthetic 5-40W which meets all of GM's requirements. I am wondering if I should continue the Synthetic or go back to Dino 15-40 oil. I have no codes on the DIC.

I have the whole banks kit, intake, exhaust and IQ with tuner and brake, could not be happier.

Use 15w40 whatever, usually Delo or Delvac at 5k. And have an 07 LBZ with 80k almost all towing or hauling. Awesome truck.

2007 (1/2). 6.6 with 298,000 miles. Used 15w40 Rotella most of the truck's life. 15,000 miles ago switched to syn Rotella. I change the oil around 8000 miles.

06 LBZ Duramax with 310,000 miles of mostly heavy towing, change oil at 5,000 miles when DTC shows %50, fuel filter at 10,000 miles when DTC shows %30, Rotella T6 5W40 synthetic, also used on motorcycles

I continue to use it and change every 10,000 miles or earlier. Get 16.9 mpg no load.
