Well, does anyone here own a Ford pick-up truck with this new Navistar V-8 twin-turbo engine? I have to believe someone on this forum owns one! Perhaps you can give all of us an unbiased report. Chuck/Bagman57

As you can see by my signature, I own one.
Some complain about the lag time for the turbo to spool up when accelerating hard, but I haven't noticed any difference between this truck and my other 3 diesel trucks I've owned. I had a 7.3L, a Duramax and a 6.0L diesel. It has awesome power. Oil changes are much easier as the grill goes up with the hood giving better access. The front bumper also doubles as a step, much like the rear bumper always has. For the most part, the only thing these trucks go in for is routine maintenance. Now I know you can go to the many Ford Diesel forums and get a different opinion after reading the posts. But one needs to remember that people who post generally are the ones having an issue. How many of the 100's of thousands truck owners NOT having a problem post that fact.
My only complaint is with the fuel mileage, albeit that has nothing to do with the motor. All manufactures are experiencing decreased MPGs for the 2008 models due to the new EPA requirements.
Other notables about the new trucks. The ride in my F-450 is comfortable as riding in my Honda Accord. In fact my wife, who has a herniated disk, thinks it rides better. When we do a long trip, we always take the truck as it is more comfortable on her back. The steering is the first thing I noticed. Turning radius is more like a car that a truck. I can maneuver thru parking lots like I never could with my other trucks.
Let's not forget the tailgate step. The tailgate step is awesome for getting in and out of the bed when the tailgate is down. Truly worth the cost of that option.
If it weren't for the EPA, I would rate this truck a 10, but I have to give it a 9.

since the computer's been re-flashed I get about 15 solo. That DPF sure cuts into MPG's. But from what I hear, all 3 mfrs have the same issue; poor fuel mileage.

John,
How many hours do you have on the 6.4 so far??
I was talkig with a guy at International a few months ago, and he told me that the ECU is programmed to hold back full power for this engine until it has 300 hours on it.
Then you should get a boost in power, as well as better fuel milage.

Wow, that's about 20,000 miles. Have you reached 20k yet, and if so, did you notice a power increase?

I had a company truck with the 6.4L pulled some awesomeloads, m/t truck would run about 15-16 solo (3.73 gears) pulled 17,000 lb trailer and still could go up the grapevine in ca at 65, hated to see it go,had 40k on it when company gave me a 6.8L gas v10 still great truck lots of power for a gas motor, pulled the same 17,000lb trailer with the gas and I was impressed! they can say all they want about american trucks, let some honda or toyota match anything from ford gm or dodge.

forgot to add that the factory trailer brake controller with sway control is the best I have ever used, Ford has got it right with this system, awesome brakes for the trailer, never any sway, NEVER! smoothest braking I have ever experienced.

Just My Two Cents
My Black Pig has 6400 miles I just finished a solo run 140 miles each way today. I got 12 to 13 running 75 mph and the way back on a two lane I held her down to 55 mph. I averaged 17 so I was very happy with that. Either way Yogi liked the ride.
My Old 7.3 would get about 18 to 19 but the ride was terrible compared to the new dullie .Also the power is better, maybe not off the line but I'm old so I'm not in a hurry off the line.

Sorry. Haven't looked in here for a few days.
I have close to 19K now. My mileage is up to around 16.8 now. It is getting better. I usually do not look at the engine hours. I usually leave it on MILES TO EMPTY.

Wayne. You are absolutely right about the ride. My wife and I both have bad backs and this truck is much more comfortable than my car. And I have an F-450!! Also the turning radius is awesome. These are the two things that caused me to go ahead and trade my `06.

I have a Question Does anyone have a problem with the ABS light coming on. Ford checked out the truck and said No Codes . After driving an hour the light comes on for awhile and then goes out. Well one more Question what mileage are you changing Oil ??? Ford say's 10,000 or 5,000 the dealer thought that 5,000 was better. Well at a $ 150 an Oil Change I guess the dealer wants you coming back.

Haven't had the ABS light come on at all. I did have the service engine light come on once. Turns out the computer sets a code when one reaches MAX RPM. With my 4:30 gears that is about 85. I hit 85 once.
As far as oil change. I use AMSOIL Premium Diesel Oil and change every 10K miles. Others go longer using oil analysis to monitor the oil and change only when needed. As I change my own, I just do it at 10K.

Well Yesterday I hooked-up the Cardinal and did a test pull . I had to put new tires ( cracking )on the trailer and wanted to re-torque the lug nuts. Everything was great expect the ABS light. Well I called Ford and get it in Bad Module for the ABS. This was the third time back to Ford. They never had a code, this time the light was ON when I got there. They ordered the part. The tech said he would re-flash with new program. Wanted everything right as we are leaving for the Escapes in Sedalia Mo. Then the Rally in Ohio we can't wait.
