Early heater core blowout

I have a 2006 F350 turbodiesel bought new. In spring 2010 the heater core blew out and started leaking. The independent mechanic did some research due to it being unusual for a heater core to only last 5 years, and told me that there was some sort of insert that should go in the heater hose to reduce pressure or something. I checked with my local Ford dealer (admittedly not a bunch of rocket scientists) who said they had never heard of such a thing.

Has anyone else heard this? Is it necessary?

Stormseeker, Most likely unreleated to your Ford truck issue, a recall was accomplished on my 2008 Saturn Vue which called for a device to be installed that would reduce the pressure from the cooling system which is imparted on the heater core.

in the 80-90's the mustang had a restrictor that went into the heater hose before the heater core that reduced flow. Looked like a washer with a small hole in the center. It was a Ford answer to heater core failure
