If you are looking for a gas coach made before 2012 I would recommend looking for one built on the Workhorse chassis with the 8.1L Vortec Chevrolet engine with the Allison transmission.

Well I see you posted in the Powerstroke forum. First off the Ford V10 is not a diesel Powerstroke engine. Its a gasoline engine. Very dependable.

The spark plug problem was on older engines, I think back before 2000. Still on several forums, I have heard on one person that had that problem.

Any engine new or used is susceptible to problems. Just check it out good. New engines have a warranty. The last motorhome I purchased, I also purchased a one year service agreement that covered the engine. After driving it for a year with no problems, I dropped it.

I would suggest that you but the motorhome that you like the floorplan and don't worry about the engine.

Thanks I do worry bout things that go bad on any thing we own. I do most of my repairs. Was thinking I posted this in the wrong place. The new MH I have been in look so cheap that's why I am looking at the older ones most were made better. I just don't understand why people don't take better care of things.

Had the wotk horse in 2006. Was not that crazy about it. Made a lot if nouse and did not like heavy rain. Brakes were not great. Now have 1999. Newmar Dutchstar with V10. No problems at all. Runs great much quieter then GM engine. No problem with brakes or noise. Steering is better also. Have steering
Centering control added for safety. 66000 miles just had all brakes redone as a safety maintenance. Still on first set of plugs.

The Ford V10 and the GM 8.1L are very dependable engines. Both are purpose built truck engines. The real concern on a used one is how it was cared for. I've owned both type engines in various applications and they are tough as long as the proper maintenance was performed.
With that said, the Ford chassis, Torq-Shift tranny, and braking system is probably superior to the GM, IMHO. Good Luck!

After driving both and reading the forums I have to disagree about the Ford chassis and tranny being superior to the Workhorse (Chevy) chassis and Allison transmission that is used. Workhorse did have some problems with the brakes but I think the recall took care of that. A lot of the Ford Chassis owners have had problems with it flexing too much and the entry door being out of alignment. I haven't driven the newer Fords with the 6 speed transmission so I can't say anything about them.
