Interesting why they would have the front end wrapped up, sure glad they have these tests, and wondering what the test was trying to determine. Maybe some new feature mounted on left wheel well. Interesting, my 2011 & 2013 models of the 6.7 have been very good.

The wrap is to hide any new body panel designs and shapes until it's final production unveiling.

The wrapping is usually to mask the vehicle from spies trying to see latest styling of their competitors. All car/truck makers try to keep shapes hidden as long as they can.

If other companys pushed their prototypes to the limits during testing maybe their vehicles would as good as the Fine FoMoCo vehicles.

NO; this was a spy photo that was shot in the towing test. See the headlines at the beginning of the article. And I quote"
While undergoing an engineering analysis in 120 degree weather, a prototype for the 2016 Ford Super Duty caught fire and burned to the ground in front of our spy photographer. The blaze started in the driver's side wheel well of the truck, but we have no further details on the cause of the fire.
According to our man on the ground, it took just 3 minutes for the truck to go from smoking to fully engulfed in flames. The prototype was reduced to a smoldering hulk in just 21 minutes." end quote.

All the "Big Three" mid truck manufacturers (Ford, Fiat and GM) have had development pains along the way and learned from their mistakes-some more slowly than others. I would consider buying any one of their new models except I'm not ready for a nanny truck that only the dealer can fix if there's a problem. They're out of my budget anyway.

After a closer inspection of more of the pics I then finally read the article. As i was looking at pic 22 and 23 I said to my self that was an aluminum bodied truck.

You truly crack me up in your Ram trolling. You could do a recall search related to fires and you will find many manufactures in there. What the article does not say is what caused the fire. Knowing these engines and it started on the left side makes me wonder if something happened to a fuel line. Maybe some test equipment was not properly secured and got to hot. With the exhaust in the center of the valley in the engine along with the turbo it is not likely it was a heat related fire from hot exhaust unless fuel sprayed on it or maybe a wire dropped on it. Hopefully the engineers determined what caused it. I can guarantee that this will not be the last fire of a prototype from any manufacture. Even your beloved Daimler, Chrysler, Obama, Fiat, Dodge, Ram LLC manufacture.

I venture to guess that all the mfgs have suffered fires of some sort while pushing their test mules to the limits and beyond. Perhaps no one cares if a Dodge burns up--or is that down?

Either way you go, Powerstroke or Cummins, their both owned by Ford. Both are great engines.
Gonna order my 2015 F350 DRW this week to replace my 06 F250 SC SB PSD which will turn over 200K this week with ZERO issues. Trying to think of a way to keep it as it's been the best vehicle I ever owned. Only reason I'm replacing it is my 5'ver with Goldwing on back is too heavy and I'm not going to tear it up.

Powerstroke is a trademarked name for Ford diesel engine products. Cummins is a separate company, in Columbus, IN since 1919.

Knowing somewhat how things happen, makes me wonder WHY/HOW the photo was ready and at the right time & place to get this picture. Would not put it past a unhappy union person messing with the truck and telling his buddy to get ready for a picture.
I trust few when things happen and just by luck a photo appears.
