Replacing the uppipes on 2002 7.3

My son and I started the job of replacing his uppipes on his 2002 7.3 F-350. Will replace with the International ceramic coated replacement bellows pipes.

Got the turbo off tonight and soaked the bolts again with penetrating oil. Will work on getting the uppipes off tomorrow.

Only disassembly problem so far was the rear Marmon clamp from the collector to the turbo. Had to use an air hammer to break the clamp free.

If you don't mine me asking what this repair will run you. Might be also doing to my truck in the near future.

Riff Raff Diesel had the lowest price on the pipes with ceramic coating. About $595 with shipping. Included in that price is a new Marmon clamp for the back of the turbo.

I bought a turbo O-ring replacement set for about $20 too.

Then I spent about $200 on another pyrometer so now my son can monitor his EGT's both pre and post turbo.

Since my son and I did the work, no labor charge.

Two questions..

What were the symptoms

Second, why the high $$$ IH parts vs the $20 NAPA donuts.. the original donuts lasted 10 years..

have a 2000 7.3 with 90k on it.. mileage has slipped a mile or two per gallon.. but still runs circles around a 6.no..

1. Symptoms were loss of turbo boost and black suet around the connection to the collector/Y-pipe. See pics below.

2. If you're going to take it apart, might as well fix it right vs. putting the same problem back in. We saved on labor by doing the job ourselves and I wanted to make sure my son learned a valuable lesson of doing it right the first time. It may cost you more in the short term, but you know that you will save in the long run.

But I do agree to RUN from a 6.0l.
