3.73 is the axle ratio that came in a DRW truck. 3.31 and 3.55 are the only two available in a SRW. Unless optioned otherwise, the 3.55 was on the trucks with 20" wheels giving them the same RPM as the 3.31 with 18" wheels.

So the OP has what is available and I don't see a big problem with his mileage.

First, if you even glanced at the Diesel manual that came with the truck, you would have seen very specific break in instructions,

BREAKING-IN YOUR VEHICLE
Your vehicle does not need an extensive break-in. Try not to drive continuously at the same speed for the first 1,000 miles
(1,600 kilometers) of new vehicle operation. Vary your speed to allow parts to adjust themselves to other parts.

Quoted from page 3 of the 2013 Diesel Supplement.

I am a weirdo who actually reads these things.

Second, according to my research, ALL 6.7L diesels in SRW configuration come with a 3.73 axle. There are no other options. For the DRW, I believe there are options, but all are HIGHER ratios.

Huh? You need to do some more research.

I think you have that backwards. SRW trucks have 3.31 or 3.55 gear ratios. DRW trucks come with 3.73 gear ratio standard, but can be equipped with the Max Tow package and 4.30 gears.

SpyderRTS,
Mind sharing where that quote is from? Doesn't make much sense to me.

Wingnut:

The reference is shown on the line below the quote.
It is from the 2013 F350 Diesel Supplement, Page 3

Not asking about break-in period/miles--asking about rear end ratios Spyder mentioned.

Joe, found that info on a Ford diesel webpage, not sure which one it was.

Thanks, just curious. Goes against my experience. I guess it would work for a lightly loaded/lightweight trailer, but when pulling heavier trailers, the higher numerical gears usually do better since the engine isn't working as hard.
