Thoughts on the new 6.7

I just took delivery of me 2015 F350 drw, 2wd. On the way home (approx 1000 miles) driving at 70mph on cruise I had a 17.0 mpg average. This trip from OH to FL with no trailer.

1) is this about the norm and is there anything I can do to try to improve it?

2)Is there anything I can do to the engine to improve performance without voiding the warranty?

We have two F350 as service trucks, SRW, the 2011 @104,000 miles is the lightest, gets about 17.4 average, the 2013 at 65,000 miles and heavy, mechanic driven gets about 15.0, but the Ford Telogis GPS system reports 9.6 mpg, that is way off, actual checking is 14.9-15.2.
Very little trouble with either other than a radiator for the 2011, it started leaking slightly. $1,700.00 repair.

1.)17mpg is norm @ 70mph..... MPG may get better as the engine wears in. Careful using cruise control on a new engine.

2.)Drive slower and tailgate a tractor tailer

Got my 2015 F350 DRW last April. Already have 25k on it. We took a 4800 mile trip pulling our 33' travel trailer (10K) out west. Averaged between 12.5-13.5 mpg depending on the wind and grades. Just took a trip to IN from Minneapolis a month ago for a factory tour. We averaged 18.5 @ 70. Ordered our 5th wheel last weekend for delivery in the spring. We'll see how she pulls a trailer almost 2x as heavy. I have an Edge insight. Drives me nuts when the regen starts and the MPG's plummet.

I had both a 2011 250 and a 2013 350 6.7 ...
best engine Ford has built.... hated to get rid of them, but the large 5'ers got replaced with a larger motorhome...

james3406,
Common advice is to vary speed on any new engine for at least the first 1000 miles, so use of cruise not recommended. I am not sure this applies to new models as the engineering and assembly has gotten much better than it used to be. Previous idea was to seat the piston rings...since you have already traveled past that mileage, it is a moot point.

Being that we are also looking into a Ford diesel to pull a 5th wheel, I found an article that states
"you would want the 3.55 axle ratio because it will tow better and provide better fuel economy loaded".
