I am looking for input on a new ShowHauler. Actually there are 2 units. One a Cascadia,505 hp DD15 Detroit, 13 spd Eaton Ultra Shift and the other is a Coronado,565 hp DD15 Detroit, 13 spd Eaton Ultra Shift. Both have 4 slides and a 33'-35' box on them.

What is the difference in the Cascadia and Coronado in service and maintenance costs, cost of operation, millage, finding parts and accessories?

Will 505 hp be enough for these Virginia mountains and touring out west in the Rockies or would more be better or just over kill?

Is there a big difference in performance or are these two units pretty even and the norm for this type of unit and size?

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated. My camping experience started many years ago with tents and stopped with 28' travel trailer. I was in the market for a Motorcoach,bus style, but after seeing several accidents I think I will feel safer with a big motor up front and a steel cage in the back.

I will begin with the trucks themselves. The Cascadia is the newest technology, so it's more aero dynamic, less wind noise & cab noise and it has what they call a set back axle so your turning radius will be much better. The Coronado will have the outfront axle which might have a slightly better ride down the highway, but turning on to secondary streets will be a p.i.t.a. They both will use the same parts so maintenance will be the same. If your going to be hanging out in the mountains and plan to tow a big trailer that 565 will be real nice. That 505 is no slouch and tie'd together with the 13 speed will have you moving right along in the mountains as well.

In the past most of the big conversions had 450 Mercedes so you are on the plus side as far as power goes. My 40' 35,000 lbs setup with the 450 & 13 speed is a perfect match, I have yet to wish for more power.

I had a look at both and your not going to go wrong with either one.

I just purchased a 2013 Showhauler, and we love it. This is my 3rd conversion and I agree with you on the safety aspect. I personally like the Volvo chassis better but having had 2 freightliners and the Volvo, the trucks are pretty comparable. Good luck!
