I am looking at a used '07 sport chassis, has 428K miles on an MB 900 330hp engine, can not find shelf life of engine, have spoken to Local freightliner dealer, they said have seen over million miles on these trucks, there advice do an oil anylasis, injector check, etc. they can do this for $385.00. Dealer a says intial owner transported racecars around the circuit.

My question is... is this too many MILES..truck exterior/interior is awesome, Clean CARFAX...asking price is $45K.

I have an 2008 Holiday Rambler Presidential Suite..GVWR 16950.

I am also looking at a 2008 F450 K/R with 68k miles for $35,000

Thanks, Jim

A Sportchassis with that engine and with that many miles,...i would keep looking. hope that helps. I seriously doubt that a anyone has ever seen a million miles on that particular engine without an in-frame already done. You should check over there in Escapees for sale section. There are a couple of smaller HDTs for sale. They're just a little taller than a Sportchassis, but with much better performance.

Never heard of a "shelf life" on an engine, usually that's for food. An engine will have an estimated mileage figure before it needs rebuilding, but that can go by the wayside if an air filter goes bad or is installed incorrectly or maintenance isn't kept up.
Cummins ISC's will usually go 500,000 - 1,000,000 miles, but some make it to 30,000 and need a top end rebuild due to "dusting".
Also, carfax isn't reliable for much as there is no requirement to post info. Even the Carfax "guarantee" only says you get back what you paid for the report. Some people seem to thing they'll buy the vehicle back if their info is wrong and they won't. Usually the title info is pretty good though.

Why looking at a Sport Chassis to tow 17,000 lbs.? I would get a Sports Chassis if I had 24,000 lbs. to tow but for 17,000 the F-450 KR will be fine.
