REV Group to sell MB buses

Hot off the presses

REV Group Awarded North American Sales Rights to Damiler Buses
11:18 AM ET, 01/04/2018 - MT Newswires
11:18 AM EST, 01/04/2018 (MT Newswires) -- REV Couch LLC, a subsidiary of REV Group (REVG), has been awarded the rights to sell Setra Brand Coaches, manufactured by Daimler AG's bus division, in the US and Canada.

To guarantee a smooth transition process long-term partner Motor Coach Industries International will remain in charge of after-sales service until June 29. Starting July 1, REV Coach will assume after-sales service.

REV and Daimler have also agreed to a strategic partnership to jointly explore further opportunities in the North American market.

Shares set an all-time high of $33.12 at Thursday's open, but have since retreated to $32.79.

What does this mean?

Setra is a common bus brand in these parts (Mexico to California carriers).

Are we talking about competition for Prevost to make premium Class A's bus conversions?

I have long wondered why Prevost seemed to have a monopoly on these things when Daimler is so big in the RV Business with Freightliner

Thanks

REV Group also owns Renegade (truck conversions), Monaco, Holiday Rambler and Fleetwood.

As to Prevost owning the market, yes and no. When I owned our Blue Bird Wanderlodge, the company that owned BB also owned Prevost and most chassis parts were interchangeable. With the shakeout in the bus/RV market many of the companies went away or quit supporting RV companies from using their shells.

I have seen and considered another custom bus on one of the other (MCI, Setra etc) but the factory supporrt for those chassis is sorely lacking if you are not a big bus company buying lots of busses. Prevost is "perceived" as the best shell and arguably it is, and the factory support is top notch.

My preference for a NON-Prevost shell is due to the monocoque construction which doesn't allow for jacks as they will twist the body and there are no hard points for mounting. Plus a few other things that would only matter to me

Once again, this is just an informational posting not one to start any disagreements.
