Some sort of generator on driveshaft

I have a 2005 Freightliner Aero Elite 19 pass transit bus with a Caterpillar C7. I had a diesel mechanic service it the other day and he noticed some sort of generator installed on my driveshaft. He wasn’t sure what it was for so I was curious if anybody here had any ideas. Please let me know your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

Are you sure it is not a retarder or some other form of braking device?

Post a picture and somebody might recognize it.

You can Google " Electromagnetic retarders " and see if something seems familiar.
