Looking to find out how many tow with a class 7 or 8 tow rig?

How many miles were on it when you bought?

Any other issues?

We pull a 1999 37.5 foot triple slide with a 2001 Volvo 770 465 hp and 1650 ftlbs torque.
Just got it, with 689,000 miles on it. Got it from Larry Ziegler. He is known for converting HDTs.

KC,

If you are towing a big fiver a heavy duty truck is the way to go. In fact, it was a great tow vehicle when we were towing a 25' Terry before we bought the Mountain Aire.

The Volvo had 602k when we bought it, pushing 630k now.

Check out the MDT and HDT forums atEscapees Lots of good info there.

The Volvo is quiet, smooth riding, safe, and gets better milage than my Dodge Ram ever did. Plus with 300 gallons of fuel on board I don't have to stop very often.

We pull a 43 ft. Travel Supreme with a 2001 Peterbilt 387 that had 496000 miles when we bought it. Now has 528000 and would not trade it for ANY other tow vehicle. Ride is great, visibility great, pulls and STOPS great. Not for everyone, tall(13ft. 2inches, long climb into cab and is different from the crowd) but it was sure the right decision for us. Gene

We tow our Cedar Creek 5'er with a Volvo 610. Better fuel mileage than my dually and a lot more safer for us.

TotermanDave from this forum is another one towing with a Volvo HDT...He lives in Delaware and recently finished his work on his second HDT, where he mounted a SmartCar behind the cab.

His son is dragging a fiver with his "old" HDT...way to keep it in the family!

I'm sure Dave will be along to expand on his project.

Maybe we'll have to start an HDT forum here on iRV2 if ya'll are interested...

We have a 38', 2007 Landmark Golden Gate that we tow with a 2001 Volvo 660. When I purchased it, it had 447,000 miles. Autoshift with a double bunk. We also use it as our daily driver. It is a great rig to tow with. Excellent stopping ability. We singled it out and added an independent air and heat powered by two honda 3000i generators. The Gens can also power our fiver.
