Truck-Toterhome conversion licensing

I have a Ford Class 8 truck that I converted to a toterhome. It was previously registared as a farm truck (DOT tagged and inspected). I used the sleeper as the motorhome box. I gutted it and then built in a couch that folds into a bed, put in a small closet that has a toilet and also put in a microwave with a small refrig below. I took the 5th wheel off the back and built a "Western Hauler" style bed on the back with a gooseneck ball and tongue pull hitch. I then took pictures of the exterior and interior, had it re-weighed, got a motorhome inspection and a Form VI-30 (previously called a "Green Slip" to verify the vin #. I took all of this along with the old title and bill of sale to Guadalupe Co. Motor Vehicle Registration to get it re-titled as a Motorhome. They refused to do it. They said it was still a truck and had to be titled and registared as a commercial truck. I argued that it was a MH and no longer a commercial truck. They said motorhomes have special chassis' and bodies and this was still a truck.
I have owned 3 other toterhomes (a Kodiak, a Ford F700 and a KW T600), but all 3 were already titled as motorhomes when I bought them.
Is there anyone out there that has experience doing this in the state of Texas? I need HELP!

Welcome to iRV2. Sorry you are having problems with your registration. Don't you just love dealing with government officials and agencies. Problem is you can talk to 4 different offices and get 5 different answers.

Your best bet would be to call the DPS in Austin on Monday and get them to give you an answer. Even there you may not get a straight answer.

Thanks, that's the info I needed. I'll be visiting the DMV again with the TXDot bulletin in hand.

It's been my experience with NYS DMV that you can't expect them to know their own rules, even if it is their job.

Best of luck...

I checked with TXDot. That bulletin is still current, so no reason I can't title as a MH.

Thanks for everyones help. I took the TXDot bulletin back to tax office. They read, said sorry they didn't know and issued MH title. Case closed (I hope).

I am going to be a bit tacky here...I am surprised that you found someone in the tax office that could read. I thought the only criteria to get a job there was you had to be breathing and managed to walk in on your own.
