anyone have any knowledge about a fuel filter adaptor that they make for the hard to get and expensive 8.1 fuel filter? it says you can use a reg gm filter for 14.00 and attach the dual port adaptor on the exit side just like the OEM. cost is 77.00 for the adaptor and thats it.
anyone ever use one or knows if they work?
i have the web site but don't know how to post it. will try again

I bought one, and the spare filter...haven't changed the original out yet, for now keeping these onboard as spares in case of problems.
Gonna get to it this winter.

Got a email form Joelyn and I will get him fixed up.

Wonder why he needs a filter? He got put on the side of the road. He would still be there had he not had a spare.

you got that right oemy. mine stopped dead, right in the slow lane of a construction site on I-40 with no shoulder. this was in albuqureque a big city and the repair shop could not find one in stock anywhere. eariliest would be 2 days delivery at 136.00. the repair guy could not believe i paid 98.00 for mine so he was going to try to prove me wrong and started calling around. boy was he surprised.
and i just changed it 9 months ago and only had 6000 miles on it. thank goodness i bought a extra one at that time. this breakdown only stopped me for about 2 hours instead of 2 days. will carry 2 spares for now on just in case. its worth the xtra peace of mind

I wonder why, with so many problems that these manufactures could be trying to improve on, they instead bother with something like a fuel filter that was just fine the way it was. I have the older style and just changed it out, keeping the 10 year old original as an emergency spare. It presented no problems going up and down in the western rockies this past summer and the change was mostly to have an onboard spare, especially for it's $10 cost.

i agree, it is nothing but a money making thing for the manuf.. they don't even make a after market type so you have to buy from them. so they accomplished what they set out to do, keep us dependent on their parts.

Workhorse was charged with finding a solution. Pressurizing fuel lines all the way up to the rails and having a return line from the rail does not meet the emission control demands on the fuel system for this type vehicle.

The reason for the filter is sound, there are only so many Workhorse chassis on the market and it cost too much money for a fuel filter manufacturer to go at this on their own.

It's not Workhorse's fault that no other filter manufacturer want to produce this filter. I don't even belive it's not patented. The filter is easy enough to make all it takes is a company that wants to do it.

OK.... GM did it, so then why doesn't workhorse purchase and install an adapter for it, so that one can get the common and cheaper filter at any parts store.

There is nothing wrong with the design per se. They just didn't think about a simple adapter to use the old style filter. This design eliminates some 30+ of fuel line. This saves $$ and potential heat soak of the fuel being routed back to the tank. Remember, the fuel pump is cooled by the fuel in the tank.

The fact that an aftermarket component is available that makes it convienient a less expensive for an owner operator to replace a filter is just that, aftermarket.

Aftermarket components make it possible for a great number of vendors to compete and profit by introducing upgrade products. There are many aftermarket upgrade products for any type of RV chassis.
