Hmmm. I've been cleaning them for years with no problem.
I agree with Arch, matter of fact I just returned today from a 1450 miles round trip from out west, before I left, I cleaned the MAF. I do carry a spare MAF.

There are many here in the WH forum that clean their MAF, just use the proper cleaner
