I read some of the past posts about ethanol and was wondering if anyone was running the 10% Ethanol. Where I get gas at the Samsclub they have now gone to 10% ethanol. Is poor milage the only problem using 10%?

I've run 10% ethanol since we got our Sunrise. Infact it's hard to find any gas without at least 10% ethanol other than super premium grades. Our mileage is ok considering what we drive and where we drive it. I've never tried premium in it because of the cost, it would have to get a lot better mileage than with regular to justify the expense of premium.

No need to go to HT Gas. I dropped it like a bad habit. In todays economy HT gas is basically for high performance use only.

There is no harm in running up to 10% Ethanol in your engine. there's no good but at least there's no harm.

I think all gas sold in Virginia contains 10% ethanol.

That's what's in my tank now.

The station where I buy my gas has just started putting a 10% ethanol label on the regular, even though they have had the label on the other grades for some time.

I have noticed that the gasoline doesn't even smell like gasoline now, it smells like alcohol

Would the 10% ethanol make the gasoline evaporate quicker? I know I don't seem to be able to make as many camping trips as I used to

10% Ethenol has been used here in the mid-west starting back in the 90's IL/WI. Thought everyone state had that stuff by now.

Most gasoline sold in the united states has had ethanol for a long time. It basically replaced MTBE as a fuel oxygenate. Since most states require the fuel to have a oxygenate and MTBE had other environmental problems, ethanol took its place.

Usually the gasoline has less than 10%. The stickers on the pumps usually read "up to 10%". Most gasoline has closer to 7% or 8%.

As they say, corn was made to eat (by any number of creatures). Pulling millions of bushels of corn from the food market is raising havoc with the world hunger problems.

Thanks, Tom Harkin-D, Iowa, and the lying goreists.

I heard or read somewhere that it takes oil to make ethanol, is this true?

It takes more energy to make a gallon of ethanol than the corresponding gallon of oil equivalent energy (so I hear).

We are begging the Saudis to pump more oil while we in the US sit on more oil reserves than exist in the rest of the world combines.

Thank the same people that complain about Bush's buddies for not allowing us to drill for our own.

Several years ago during a trip to the midwest, I used some 10% ethanol gas. It was cheaper to upgrade to the midgrade (no ethanol)gas.

Got better gas milage without ethanol

Gas formulations are determined by the individual states. Arizona has 3-4 different formulations depending on the time of year. In addition, different cities in the state demand unique differences.

Of course this means the refineries must change production methods/additive set-ups to accommodate each state's whim. Likewise, California has its own peculiar formulations. Many have been shown to be carcinogens (MTBE IIRC) and have been taken off the market.

My point is, this chaos created by bureaucracies and environmentalists has drastically effected not only the price of gas, but the availability.
