1996 454 exhaust gasket

I had two bolts break on my exhaust. I got the bolts out with some heat and large hammer. I found the bolts but this gasket has stumped every auto parts store. Anyone have any suggestions or maybe know a number to cross reference?

Why not buy exhaust gasket material and cut your own? You've got more than enough of the old one to make a pattern.

I was using that as a last resort. I've never cut my own before so a bit intimidated.
I just googled gasket maker again. Which brand would you suggest? There are so many.

Permatex makes a product called Rightstuff, we use it at work on exhaust connections all the time, we also use it for header gasket material on the race car.

Have you tried your local Chevy garage especially since you have the old one for a sample?

When I did the main exhaust manifold gaskets on my 98 454 I found that the Failaatex failed in less than a year and had to pull them off. I had to go directly to a chevy dealer for the correct stainless steel part. The cheapo's were $15 for a set, the stainless chevy parts were $70 for a set. They are still working perfectly. I've made many gaskets, but there is no way I could make these. As much as I like to save a buck, I would recommend that you bite the bullet and get the more expensive ones. Good luck....

This part is not for a 454 (7.4L)

"Football shaped flange gasket, fits 4.3L, 4.8L, 5.7L and 6.0L"

Why not just use Permatex high temp RTV sealant. It is used in many high peformance aplications like headers and exhaust connections.

It's the same size and will work. I have the same one on my 91 454.

I see your point here based on the webpage. But it is the shape and size of my gasket and they have the Y pipe and catalytic converter pipes listed also. May be worth a call.

Looks like the correct one to me for a 454. But comparing parts is the only way to be sure. AND my point is that chevy used some very exotic parts on the P30 chassis to insure longevity.

Good information that the Mill Supply website isn't accurate, especially for someone finding this thread to address the same problem.

Also, I kinda wonder how, or if, the exhaust changed as the 454 engine transitioned from carburetor, to throttle body, to port fuel injection. I heard somewhere the Vortec engine had cast Stainless steel exhaust manifolds as these are less likely to crack than the older cast iron versions. True, or urban legend?

I doubt the system on my 91 is factory-the Winnebago parts manual lists different pipes and the P-series parts book for 91-92 shows a different exhaust system than this. The O2 sensor is down next to the flange in a collector where stock 454 has it in the manifold up near the engine. But the dual cats are identical to the ones shown on the Mill Supply site, emptying into two large mufflers and (apparently) custom bent and welded tailpipes that exit ahead of the drivers rear wheels.
