Hi all,

I, among many others I can see, have been stuck with that auto park issue. Luckilly, I found a lot of information on that problem on this forum and the net and was able to come back home safe.

Now, I have figured out I had a bad switch and two leaks, one on the actuator and one on the pump.

I'm wondering if someone would know of a place to find rebuild specs for the actuator and pump, including torque specs for the nuts and tension tolerance for the actuator spring, seals, etc. I know a couple local shops near from where I leave and want to ensure they rebuild it to specs.

One thing I learnt though, check that system regularly and change its fluid at least once a year, especially if your leaving North and have to winterize your MH. As well, inspect it regularly for leaks, check your switches by unplugging the connector only to see if oil is passing through. It's really easy and is unfortunately not done if you have your MH maintenance done at the corner garage, they would most likely need trucks or MH experience to know to check it.

Anyhow, what has been done is done and we're moving forward with yet another repair..

Just to give you hints on helping me figuring out the proper rebuild info for the J71 AAPB, on my MH, it's the version 3 (as described by Oldusedbear) with the yellow knob on the dash and separate pump and actuator.

On a side note, I just want to say that I don't want to spend the money to have a Workhorse authorized center to rebuild it for me as I judge that local shops can do it for cheaper and will be as reliable if they have the proper specs to do so.

Thank you all.

Dave

Dave: Have you considered the system from Brazel's that I understand completely replaces the J71???

Hello,

Yes, I am in contact with Roger already, waiting to see if he can find me these info.

As for the system from Brazel's, yes, I have definitely looked at it but am trying to keep the coach as stock as possible. Depending on how much it would cost me to rebuild my current system, I may or may not switch it. Having a compressor in the coach was an upgrade I had considered, so it would give me a reason to do the switch and convince the finance minister of our household... LOL

Thanks for the advice though.

For those who are not familiar with it, take a look at it from there:

As well, I have read an announcement on this forum that they are coming out with the Ultra-Save product, which will prevent the park drum brake from locking up in case of failure. This could be a great alternative for me to consider since I want to keep my MH as stock as possible.

Here's the link to the announcement:

Thanks all,

QuarterHorse ==> "Git-R-Done"

Here's the press release for all you galkers

Brazel’s RV Performance Releases a
Hydraulic Auto Apply Brake - Fail-Safe System

August, 22, 2011 - Centralia, WA -- Brazel’s RV Performance announced today that it has developed a failsafe auto apply hydraulic brake system called the "Ultra-Save."

The Ultra-Save prevents the auto park brake from applying while the vehicle is in motion. The kit retails for under $300 and installs in under an hour and a half. It operates as a “fail-safe” system in case of a pump and/or pressure failure. As you know, on a P-series, should the auto park activate when the vehicle is in motion it will destroy the park brake shoes, park brake cable and output shaft seal resulting in a repair bill in excess of $600 plus a possible towing bill. A W-24 failure can cost in excess of $2400! … not to mention the inconvenience. The Ultra-Save system will work on any vehicle that uses a hydraulically operated auto park system.
