Today I drove the family to the Titan missile museum south of Tucson and discovered our MH's only real problem to date. It was the 1st time I've tried the AC as the temp outside was around 80. I noticed that there was zero difference between the vent, AC norm, and AC max. I checked the fuse (15a) in the engine compartment but it was ok. I had my son slowly cycle the ac on and off while I was outside with my head in the engine compartment to determine if I could hear the condenser cycling on and off but I never heard a thing. My coach is only 3 months old so obviously it is still under warranty. I'll call on Monday to get it in for repair; while waiting is there something else I should check first? Btw, I did a search and read the 4 pages of ac entries in the WH forum. Thanks. -Walt

I bet when they check the system for leaks they'll find a loose fitting. Once this is resolved you should be good to go long term.
On your 2007 are you absent the auxiliary cooling fans on the front of your cool pack? If so the only thing you would see would be condenser.

Thanks -- This is my first MH (& WH) so I'm not sure about the fans but I don't see one (or two) anywhere. I hope that the fix is easy and not real time consuming as I live in my coach. Thankfully by running the generator I can run the AC units on the go. 80 degrees isn't much but combined with the sun beating in the huge windshield it got quite toasty. Especially yesterday as I sat in traffic on I-10 east of Tucson due to a rollover accident.

Yep -- you were correct. They found a leak in the system. Changed an o-ring, recharged the system, and viola, I've got AC.

That's all they did? How long was that compressor running without refrigerant/oil? I should think that they would have at least replaced the compressor and the filter/dryer.

I'm not sure what you mean but it is a brand new MH and I was probably the first person to even turn the AC on based on the date of manufacture and date of purchase. I turned the AC on, it didn't work so I turned it off. It was on perhaps a total of 10 minutes as I fiddled with it trying to feel cold air. I don't see how this could have hurt anything but now you have me wondering.

I think the compressor may be protected from running without proper amount of freon

LanceMan, not to worry, as stated above, compressor clutch will not engage with low pressure in system. Enjoy your new motorhome, air conditioning and all.

Insulate the doghouse and you'll be surprised how much better A/C works.

Oh, that's right. I forgot about the pressure switches. Sorry about that.

Why should it not be unusual for a loss of refrigerant in a new motor home, unless they had no quality control at the manufacture.
If it leaked onced and not fixed it will leak again!
