Well our coach had its second year birthday last month and I am wondering if there is any pm I should be doing. So far, just oil changes and lubes, and the trans filter changed at 5k. We live in San Diego, so it is exposed to a mild climate. Wondering specifically about brake fluid, my GM service writter recommends flushing the brake fluid every two years due to moisture on my truck. Wondering if this is a good idea for the mh. All-in-all, we have had zero issues with the chassis, except the instument panel change and the fuel rail dampner. Thinking about it, my 04 Jeep has not gone to the shop once, nor has my 05 3/4 ton GMC truck. I digress... Its the Fourth, feeling patriotic.

surfride, I also changed out the trans fluid from the Transyd/DextronII mix it came with, to all Transyd synthetic. It requires two changes (3 gals. per change & trans. filter) per Allison. This will give it a 100,000 mile service and will run cooler. Allison does NOT recommend power flush for change out. You'll need a funnel with a 3' long clear hose to fill fluid.

Today I also picked up on a conversation that Terry Labonte Chevrolet in Greensboro which is an Allison Certified shop has a power flushing machine. A person that I was speaking with has an appointment on Thursday to have the service accomplished. I hope he calls me and lets me know how that worked out.

DriVer, you're correct that Allison approved service centers will power flush their trannys. Just make sure the system is approved by Allison. Some flushing systems use solvents which can harm the seals and interior.

I am only speaking about a direct fluid replacement machine. What comes out of one end is replaced by fluid coming in the other.

What I'm not totally clear about is whether the attachment points constitute a closed loop assuring a complete exchange. Having accomplished a "power flush" I was assured that my concentration of Transynd is up to acceptable levels most likely exceeding 90% content.

Recapping a bit of previous history on my transmission, I had accomplished a single manual dump and refill using ~ 10.3 quarts Amsoil Torque Shift fluid. I have changed the spin on filter 3 times in 60,000 miles but that was 1 at 5K miles and 2 more with the transmission fluid changes.

In my opinion my synthetic fluid concentration should be upward of 97%. This percentage is well within acceptable limits offering all the benefits detailed in Allison's extended maintenance schedule. I'm not so much worried about a warranty. I think this Allison tranny is going to run for a good long time trouble free.

Florida Detroit Diesel-Allison in Ocala power flushed my 2100 16 months ago. Since I was less than one year old and had Dexron in my Allison they extended my warranty. I did ask them about the power flush and their reply was they were an authorized Allison service center. This was close to my 5000 miles service so they replaced the filter also.

Thank you Driver. Perfect
I'm remembering now, I changed fluid and filter. Got an Allison brand filter at Napa Parts at a good price. I thought tho 12k miles was needed to switch to syn?

Allison transmission from the "Worry List"!

I am a little confused. My chassis is an 05, built in Sep04 I believe. What trans fluid do I have? Isn't this already rated for 100,000 miles? What should I expect to pay to have an Allison shop do the change?

If you go to Allison they will be able to tell which fluid is in your transmission.

surfride,

When your Allison tranny was delivered to Workhorse it was filled with about 50% Transynd fluid. Workhorse then added the remaining fluid. Until Janurary 2005, Allison did not require chassis manufactures to add Transynd synthetic fluid, thus opted to fill with Dextron II (compatable and cheaper). To check if you have ALL Transynd fluid call Workhorse (1-877-946-7731). Through the Vin No. they can tell which fluid was added.
