Hi,

I need some fast help to find out the part number for a power steering pump to fit my Bounder W22 2001 motorhome. My mechanic can't find one.
He started out to just put in a new kit. Could not find that so tried for a new pump. No one knows where to find one.

Help, I wanted to leave Friday morning.

Thanks

Ron

Call Oemy's Performance. He has a lot of cross reference parts numbers for Workhorse. Very nice guy to deal with.

Thanks for the reply. His website is where I checked first.

Problem is WH does not seem to have one in stock. The pump has the power boost built in. Looks like it will be a hard one to find. I have a call in to Murtha and he is trying to help me.

Seems that I can still drive it as the pully will not fly off but it will leak some and only get worse.

Thanks again.

Ron

W0000032 is only number I come up with.... This may be one of those Workhorse only parts!

Hi,

Kind of an update. I am driving with the old power steering pump.

It seems that Workhorse don't have a pump that I can get. Not in stock.
When I/if get to Bowling Green I will have a talk with them. Not only don't they have them but they are asking for both my legs as payment.

If I had one of these pumps that needed fixed I would take it apart and see if I could get a seal for it. Workhorse don't want them to be rebuilt or they would sell a kit. W0000032 is the part#, also I have W8005119 that could be a new part#.

I have no idea where I can get a pump as of now.

Shame on Workhorse.

Ron

That's pretty sad, and scary , to be dependent on Workhorse parts department.
An American company too.
How can they build and sell new chassis's if they have no power steering pumps? Or are'nt they?

Deaop, if its just the front seal on the power steering pump that is leaking, you should be able remove the seal, or have the seal removed, and take it to any large bearing supply for a matchup. Sometimes there is a number on the seal. If no number, measure the diameter of the pump shaft, and the inside diameter of the seal bore, and the bore depth in the front of the pump. If you are unable to do this your self, any reputable mechanic should be able to help you. These measurements can be cross referenced in the bearing and seal dealers catalog. National Seals, Chicago Rawhide etc make hundreds of different replacement seals, and in fact may have produced the seal for the pump on your Workhorse. Many moons ago back in my working days, I used to go to a bearing supply company called Kaman Bearings, they probably are still in business, and I believe they are a nationwide company.

We put power steering (Lucas) stop leak in the pump and all new fluid. So far it has not leaked. Drove it about 80 miles. When I got home there was a chirping sound in front. My neighbor came over and we desided that it was the belt not the steering. Changed belt and everything is now good. Will try to keep this pump if I need to replace it and try to get seal to rebuild it. Neighbor said that most all pumps can be rebuilt and he will help.

Will be at Bowling Green 18th to 23rd and am going to talk to WH about their pump and why I could not get one.

So for now I will drive it until it starts to leak then try to get it fixed. My extended service will cover it but it will have to be leaking.

This is where I am at. Not good to know that pump can leak at anytime and may not be able to get one. Don't know if this would be a safely issue or not but will ask WH about that.

Will keep you updated.

Ron

If you wind up attempting repair of the seal, you may find the shaft has a small groove worn into it where the seal lips contacted. Seals are cheap, so if you find this, try a new seal anyway, but try to position the seal a small amount forward of its original position. Usually this means not installing the seal fully to the "lands" or shoulder in its machined diameter, as tho you left a shim at the shoulder where the seal would otherwise land. Now the seal has to start over & wear a new groove.

If that doesn't work, take the WH pump to a shop that does hot rod work and explain the situation. Those guys are fabulous at substituting parts, they hate proprietary spec's, and are usually eager to help work out that type of puzzle. The pump has to create a certain amount of pressure, fit within the bolting pattern set up on the block. and have a proper shaft offset for the pulley. Chances are if you can find a physical fit, the hydraulics will be in the ball park.

Just an update on the power steering pump. I talked to Eric at Bowling Green FMCA Rally and he told me that they are still made. As mine quit leaking I won't get it fixed until it leaks again.

They are around $700 + shipping. He found one in GA so they are out there. I have insurance that will pay all but $200 but dealer won't fix it until it starts leaking again. So I will be watching.
