My father has a 2002 newmar mountain aire on the workhorse w22? chassis it is an 8.1l gas. He starts it up every month etc. This week he went to start it and it has a no crank and no start issue (fyi fuel gauge is pegged hard full). The power to all dash and houseall works I was helping him troubleshoot it and I found a fuse blown. Under the hood in the fuse block there is a fuse labeled tcm/pcm-bat a 20 amp mini fuse it was blown, and as soon as i touch a new fuse to it they blow instantly. All and any advice is appreciated.

TCM = Transmission Control Module
PCM = Powertrain Control Module

That is a fuse you dont want to have blowing.

Have critters been chewing on the wires maybe?

The only thing we have seen cause this besides a shorted wire is a bad TCM. I would check wiring harness over and we can send a TCM to rule that out if you want.

One Possible item to check: Check all the connections on the starter. They have been known to losen up enough to lose contact.

FYI; They are very difficult to reach even with a 1/4" drive socket and even easier to ground out as there is very little room between the terminals and other grounded items. Disconnect the Chassis battery BEFORE you check the connections.
Hope this helps!

Lift your dog house (engine cover) from inside your coach. Rodents like to build nest on top of the engine and will knaw on your wiring to build the nest with. Look around and see if you see any rodent remnants. The TCM and ECM are fastened to some bracing on top of the engine. The wiring harnes that feeds them should be fairly visible for you to inspect.
Good luck -- Frank O.

I have the same unit as your Dad.

If you open the hood you can see the TCM (transmission control module) and ECM (engine control module) sitting on top of each other, centered above the radiator, where the fresh air is directed through them. You have to access them from the rear. Jon Brazel has offered to send you a TCM for testing if all your wiring and plugs are intact- What a deal-.

Call him or his folks on how to remove the plug(s). I recently sent both units to Jon for reprogramming, It's a bit tricky.

Good luck,

The coach is back on the road. I thank all members for there help. I would like to thank Jon from Brazel's RV. I shipped him the TCM and ECM and within a few days had them back. Brazel's is a company I will always recommend, A+ service. Brazel's replaced the TCM and reprogrammed my ECM. Again thank you all.
