2004 Pace Arrow, W-22 2650 Miles on it. I have a problem that I hope someone can help with. I have a vibration that is worse between 60 and 70 MPH, but is there to some degree all the time. I don't think it is the tires, but you can let me know what you think. It is only when the drive train is moving the coach (not when you take your foot off the accelerator). Can be running at say 65 with the vibration and let off the accelerator and everything smooths out. This will also show up at 10 MPH or any speed, but is worse at 60-70. I had a mechanic check the u-joints and they were fine. It's a high frequency vib. You can feel it in the seat and floor and steering wheel. It is not a shimmy in the steering wheel like you would expect with front tires. Hope someone has an idea. I have been reading here for a while, this is a great forum with knowledgeable people. Thanks in advance.

I'm wondering if it couldn't be something related to the balance of your driveshaft as remote of a scenario as that might be. Perhaps one of the balance weight came off. They look like 1 inch metal squares sometimes and are welded on.
Now here's another possibility, if the vehicle has ever been towed perhaps the servicing agent put the rear driveshaft back on 180° out of phase.
If you have lubricated your drivetrain, does each universal cap accept grease?
It doesn't sound like a tire balance issue.

OK that said, perhaps a drive shaft company can take a look? Just look and see if you have one in your town.
Let's see what the other owners have to suggest.

Along with a bad u-joint , the center carrier bearing holding the middle of the shaft may be going bad, and causing a vibration.

I would not be surprised if one of the u-joints is going bad, I think if you started to take them apart you would see a least on dry cap end. I would very carefully inspect the joints including the center support. I have had a drive shaft drop out on me in a car, I don't know if I want to go down that road in an RV.

Since you only have it while acceleratiing and with the gas pedal applied I would have your motor and transmission mounts checked--I had the same problem on my Chevy truck and it was my right motor mount---good luck in finding your problem!!

Good advice from woodyk . Sounds like you have to have torque applied before you experience the vibration.

Try taking it out of OVER DRIVE.. if the problem disappears, time to replace your tranny fluid.

Pete, Was that mileage 2,650 correct? Has the drive shaft been pulled for towing? Are all the joints timed and in alignment at the slip-yoke? Bolts tight at carrier bearing on shaft? Could it be an engine miss under load? Check by holding foot on brake and really step on the gas in gear feel it shake? Hope this helps.
Mike

Yes 2650 is correct 2004 model. I will try the in gear brake and gas. Don't want to cause the brake problem by realy clamping down on the brakes. I don't think it's a motor miss. I can be going down the road at say 65 and take my foot off the acclerator and it smooths out and then I can ever so slightly touch the gas and it comes back, not really much gas (torque) at all.

I don't know if it has ever been towed or not, I just purchased it. This MH sat a lot, I don't know what the previous owner did with it. He sure didn't drive it and the microwave, range, washer/dryer, shower and furnaces have never been used and all the stickers were still on mirrors and glass. I have changed the oil and filter, transmission fluid, chassis lubed and coolant flushed. The fuel filter should have been changed but it was not on the invoice, so I have to check that. From reading here I will flush the brake fluid (I live in SC and on a big lake so lots of humidity). If anyone can think of anything else I need to do please let me know. It is an early 04 and the front shocks are black, I don't know if I want to go with any firmer shocks or not, when I hit a bump or RR tracks it will jar pretty good. Will get the fuel rail clip next week when I have the brake fluid flushed. Thanks again for everyones help.

Also check the torque on your "U" bolts for each of your wheels, the Workhorse chasis guide states to do a troque at 500 miles then every 10,000. they are torqued to 140 ft lbs and mine were loose. This could also be your problems if the motor and transmission mounts were OK.
