Do you actually believe that line?

Look at this... 10k & New. $12 once a year. Tell me what your saving? It sure is not the longevity of your engine.

My point is: We pay anywhere fro $150,000 to what ever your wallet will stand and won't spent $10 for a fuel filter, $12 for a filter, $12 for brake fluid, $12 for a 2 qt oil filter and what ever else is needed once an year.

Calm down Oemy. I'm sure he will realize the error of his ways.

This one looks good for $232 bucks.

S&B Cold Air Intake Kit (Cleanable, 8-ply Cotton Filter)

  • Airflow Rating: Flows 49.5% Better than the Stock Intake
  • Efficiency Rating: 99.84% Efficient - ISO Course Dust (S&B stopped 1.15% more dirt than GM & still improved the air flow by 49.5%)
Item #: 75-3030-1

The only time you need max. air flow is at wide open throttle and how often does that happen and the factory system is a cold air intake, at least as cold as the air is outside so IMHO the factory setup is good enough for normal driving at least my normal driving. The high flow filters still have to be removed and cleaned and re oiled and if you get too much oil on it the mass air sensor can be damaged and lower you fuel milage. Most of these companies say they give you 10% better milage but how much is 10% of the milage you get and how much do they cost?

OEMY...

I agree with you totally!

I was just referring to the old TV commercial that Fram had YEARS ago (Hence my time warp) with the mechanic talking about proper maintenance and the cost of not doing it. My dad taught me the same lesson long before the commercials came out.

I just replaced my air filter last week. I could crawl under the front and sit upright right behind the filter housing. I unhooked the air tube going back from the filter housing by unscrewing the clamp and pulling the hose off. I then unhooked the spring clamps on top. Then I pulled the top of the cover toward the back and it came off fairly easily. I replaced the filter and then put the cover back in place by putting the tabs in the bottom slots. I then closed the top of the cover and snapped the spring clips on again. Then I reconnected the hose and tightened the band clamp. It didn't take me over 10 minutes to do. It was easy and I did not have to fool with lifting the front or worrying that it might drop on me.

Changed to filter today

Thanks for the advice to raise the wheels and turn them to the right it made the job a lot easier for me, of course I'm stiffened up with arthritis.
I used one of Omey's AF917 filters, the filter I removed was a Hastings AF385 which looked very good but after going this far I changed it.

I'm always surprised at how clunky and inefficient the air intake system looks.
Thanks for your help.

Even though it looks clean it probably isn't. Cheap insurance.

Air filters are inexpensive so replace them often.

What would be the point of paying to 2-3 times more for a stock filter? And when I went to this website I never did find the foam part of the filter.

Omey, don’t you know, The extended life filters only filter the larger particles of dirt allowing the smaller stuff to pass through to your engine. Since these partials are small they don’t do too much harm to your engine. So since only the larger particles are filtered the filter doesn’t need changing as often.

JUST KIDDING OF COURSE!!
