411 on changing air filter 8.1L
Can anyone give a little help on changing the air filter on my 8.1? I've gotten the clips open but haven't been able to lift the back of the filter housing.
I looks like jacking up the front to lower the tire might make the filter more accessible. I'm not the most nimble guy these days. Is it necessary to remove the RF tire?
Thanks for your help.

no need to remove the tire but it IS a PIA to get in there....tilt the back cover while trying to pull up on it but be careful you don't want to break the tabs at the bottom that fit into the slots...you will have to wrestle with it gently

Be forewarned, it’s harder putting it all back together than it is taking it apart.

Remove the hose from the cover first and it doesn't hurt to turn the wheels to the right to give you more room.

Thanks for your help fellas. I'm not happy to hear it's harder to put back together then take apart. Thanks for the idea of turning the wheels to the right.
Stay cool.

Raise the front wheels way off the ground if you want some room and to make the job easy. Of course put blocks or jackstand under it just to be safe.

I just lift the front, turn the wheels, unlatch the clips, lift the back portion out the "finger holes", R&R the filter, return the fingers to the appropriate spots and re-latch the clips.. I am in and out in less than 5 mins.

Still learning a lot so...
What is the best way to lift the front end. I would think using the leveler's is the easiest. Would the best place for the stands be under my front I-beam or are there better places?

I just use a couple of jack stands under the axle or some big pieces of 6x6 cribbing I have laying in the shop.

So, for general purposes, it would be ok to use the levelers to get the wheels up and then jack stands to safely keep them there?

I am 6'3" by over 300 pounds and I have accessed, removed and replaced the filter on my Workhorse 8.1 with no problems or jacks or other tools to lift the coach.
Do not recall if I turned the wheels. but think they were pointed straight ahead.
I am able to crawl to any point under my coach except for 4, Jacks up, Those 4 points are right under the jacks themselves I can crawl up and sit beside them though.
Workhorse W-22 22.5" tires.

It can be done this way. But, it is just easier with font lifted and the tire turned out.

I also used my jacks and turned my wheels to add clearance. I also use a Fram 10000 mile extended life air filter so I don't have to change it as much.
