7.4 Fuel Injectors Bad

Two years ago the wife and I traveled from Minnesota to Montgomery, AL. for the Red Power Roundup. The trip down was fine. On Sunday morning when we went to leave the engine just didn't sound right and had low power. I figured if I got it out on the road it would do ok. Long story short we made it to Demopolis and decided we could not get back the way it was running. Eventually we found a shop to look at it and concluded the injectors were bad. Upon removing them it was found that the fuel rail had rust like deposits in it and had plugged the injectors. Judging by the amount of fuel it was using I would say they were pretty much stuck open. Any ideas why this would happen while sitting for three days? I had owned it for three years at this point after sitting for 3-4 years unused.

I've seen that happen once, when a partially clogged fuel filter tore through and released a bunch of sediment into the rail and thus the injectors. All eight clogged.

Failing that, or failing some great jolt that banged loose some of those rail rust deposits, injectors usually fail individually, not en masse.

Two years ago? Something's making you question this now?

I'm fairly new to this and didn't think of asking until now. The unit ran fine all the way down and after sitting for 4 days it acted up. I made it 30 or so miles and changed the fuel filter and there was nothing in it

This a TBI 7.4L?

If so, check the coolant sensor/s.
