After looking at my airbox intake snorkle I was thinking about something easy like a flat plate in front of the screen. There is a metal plate nearby that I could use as a mounting point then simply paint it black and extend it up high enough and wide enough to prevent water from blowing straight into the forward pointing snorkle.

Of course I would leave several inches of space to make sure there is plenty of airflow. A 496 engine needs a full 13,777 CFM of air at 4000 rpms and I dont want to do anything to slow that down.

The way mine is designed, the intake of the "tuba" is directly behind the grill. I get full on airflow straight into the "tuba". I have driven in a good rain before and never had a problem. The way I see it is the ones that need the seal on their hood must channel the water between the hood and body then dump it directly into the "tuba".

This being said, I wonder how the heck these 8.1's can suck air through these rube-goldberg air induction systems ! All those bends and switch backs, poor motor is sufficatong
I wonder how well these brazels systems will do ?

I just sent one to Driver,so we'll see what he thinks. So far we have had great responses.Teach had a small issue with his,in that it was just catching the edge of the grill opening & the incoming wind was making a little noise.

13,777 CFM?? That'd feed 24 8.1's.
(A single one needs 574 CFM at 100% effciency.)

This thing was cammed, etc. etc.

"13,777 CFM" you quoted can be more accurately displayed as 13,777 CF(24)M.

... and your right! That is a lot of air.

The mathematical way to figure it out is

(RPMxCID)/3456 CFM,the answer is 574.07 cfm to run an 8.1L big block chevy at 4000 RPM.
Good job Tderonne
