new 2005 winne voyage sucked water running in the rain and engine started missing. this air filter box is in the worst possible location, near and above the fromt wheel. this thing has to get drounded in the rain. on returning home 3000 miles later i removed the air box and found it is realy three pieces, the lid which seals on the edge of the filter and the main box which has the front part that the hose clamp on is reveted on with a couple of rivets and you can see all around the rectangle front part. now since this is in front of the filter dirt wont hurt but warter will. sealed mine up with permtex hi-temp sealant. in the process of during this i found the connecting hose and clamp improperly installed by winnebago. crimping the front intake and actualy destroyed it. i should have gotten a new box but i figured i could repair and maket even better than stock. i heated the damagaed area and pusched a piece of 4" metel vent pipe through making the intake hole round again. then i cut a two inch piece of the 4" vent pipe and sealed it on the inside of the intake and reinstalled with new k&n filer 33-2118 which i found the edge of the k&n filter is not as thick as the ac stock filter and if not motified will suck dirt around the filter lid after the filter which is really bad! i would recommed anybody with a WH chassis to pull their air box and check it out.

Ron,
This is exactly why we are developing a cold air intake kit for the Workhorse & chevy chassis. It moves the filter up & behind the hood of the coach. No more water getting sucked in.

Do not blame Workhorse. Your box building designers are the one to blame. Tehy did noyt protect the intake. Not every MH owner has this problem. Take a close look and see how big a gap was left in the grill or hood area. Also tell us what make MH you have.

All chevrolet P32 & workhorse P & W series chassis have the air filter in the same place.NOne of the 96' or later chassis have the filters behind the hood or grill!

Looks like water would go down air intake on ours if in hard rain, but tube goes down and has a trap with a drain then turns back up to filter.

NEW WINNEBAGO VOYAGE gas, they all have the same air filter box. i am not talking about the big platic tube leading to the filter box. it you take it off remove the filter look into the box you can see dayligh wher it is put together. daylight means water can enter.

RON, MY box shows no gaps around the box or tubes into it, some others have mentioned what you have stated, for some reason WH must have changed the design of the box, only since the 05's have come out has this been mentioned by people. Most of the water early models were getting was down the air tube thru the top crack of hood opening thats when we placed a bulb type weather strip in the top crack solved the water problem into air filter and the wiper steady on can't shut off problem. Some 05 Newmars still have the top crack problem which I picked up on another site. "007"

I had a "Wet Air Filter" problem while driving in PA last month--had about 9 inches of rain that day. I think most of it was just splashing from the hard rain, as this is the only time I have had a problem in 20,000 miles. I had some Engine miss--and a Engine Maintenance light come on-made it to the campground OK. The next day the engine ran fine. I changed the filter and you could see that it had been quite wet--kinda warped.
My intake tube is quite high and does not get a direct hit with water while driving

I read with interest that BRAZELSRV is working on a cold air induction system. I too had one incident of water ingestion on my 05 Scottsdale, W-22. I did the weatherstrip fix and so far it hasn't reoccured. I have done some measurements and am thinking about plumbing a cold air induction system using existing components availabole on line - 3-4" aluminum tubing, bypassing the factory air box in the wheel well - through the firewall and up to a "dry" area in the upper right side of coach frontal compartment. the plumbing seems straightforward but I'm wondering if the additional "intake noise" is going to tolerable.
Any thoughts?

I too had a problem with water entering and causing a missing and the check engine light would come on. First they added the plastic piece around the air intake to prevent this. The next time it rained, same problem. After taking it to service again they found the air filter box had gaps around it allowing water to enter there. Replaced box but have not driven in rain since then. I feel this will fix the problem because after the shield was added around the air intake there was no way water was entering there.

I'd definately be interested in a cold air induction kit for my 2003 P32. Not just for the water issue but just to move it where I can get at it to servce it.
