Have searched the net but can't find an engine wiring diagram for an 8.1. The prob is dead batteries. Found that the battery switch on dash to use coach batteries if engine battery is too low was defective. Pulled wires from switch and removed, but still new engine battery goes dead. Suspect another ground fault. Anyone help? Thanks eandy

Is the battery going dead over a period of time? If so, this is normal operation as there are keep-alive circuits that it feeds.

Adj, The new battery started engine when installed but 3 weeks later when I tried to start again was flat dead. Jumped off Jeep and let run about a 1/2 hour to charge up. Another 2 weeks not enough juice to start engine but enough to energize dash instruments. Have charged battery again off of commercial type charger but have not reinstalled. Want to find ground fault first.

Do you have a battery disconnect switches for house and engine electrical? I usually turn both of these battery disconnects off when storing the coach. Have never had a dead engine battery.

Streamerman, No, no disconnect switches yet. Want to find some less prone to breaking than blade switch. Blade may be ok for coach batteries but want better for engine battery. On shopping list. The object right now is getting a schematic, putting battery back in and check for unknown ground.

I have used a blade switch on my engine battery for years without a problem but a boat battery switch might be cheaper and less likely to cause a spark.
It could also be that since you have a 2004 coach that the battery is dead.

For those of you interested in a solid build battery switch (what I had in mind when I said a better switch) go to this at Victoria British Victoria British - Catalog AH - Page 86it is for Austin Healey. Mounted in trunk and made to take battery cable, made car theft proof. Thanks for the offer of a schematic. It will help to locate likely ground fault place.

Stay away from the 10-749 type switch. It can be bought for under $2.00 and up to $15.00 but it won't stay closed. I had one in my last toad and it would come "loose" and make a poor connection. I would have to get out and retighten it occasionaly to start the car. Also when traveling with it loose (turned off) the top would occasionaly fall off. I went to the boat type battery switch and it solved all my problems. I have attached a picture of the one I used on the coach bateries. You can get it in single or dual poles.
Hope that helps.
