Thanks for the explanation and the link.
I presume the "Manufacturer Part Number" or the "OEM Number" is used to verify which vehicle this will fit. Is there someplace you looked that up?

Also the picture shows a restriction near the end of the tube. I'm wondering if that's where the problem lies. As I said, I'm not a handy kind of guy and wouldn't tackle the replacement myself, but at least I know what to get a quote for.

Thanks again!

The left hand side of tube is the end dipstick first goes in and holds the end rod.
Here is another link to input your coach Vin# but I think it will be same part number as the other one.

I don't think that's the part number I'm after. As I said, I know little about this stuff but I can't find anything, anywhere in my docs that say "Workhorse". Is that a "trade name"?

My info just says 2001 Chevrolet Express Chassis 3500, 8.1 L Vortec.
I think the part number I need is this:

Engine Oil Dipstick Tube - 2001 Chevrolet Express 3500|12561508
Genuine GM Parts
Manufacturer:GM
Part Number:12561508
Part:Engine Oil Dipstick Tube
Part Notes:8.1 LITER, 8 CYL GAS; oil level

But everywhere I search, it shows the part has been discontinued.
I also found the part below that I think may be where the problem lies.
I'll continue to live with the inconvenience for now.
Thanks a bunch for your help!
O LLOYD

Engine Oil Dipstick Tube Seal - 2001 Chevrolet Express 3500|24504031
Manufacturer:GM
Part Number:24504031
Part:Engine Oil Dipstick Tube Seal
Part Notesipstick Tube

If you have a Workhorse chassis click on WH than the year and chassis models will come up for year of coach.
Here is another link for Workhorse parts.

Here is where you [URL="http://www.amazon.com/Dorman-917-303-Dip-Stick-Tube/dp/B007H8DKOQ/ref=au_as_r?ie=UTF8&Make=Workhorse%7C608&Model=W22 %7C21633&Year=2003%7C2003&carId=001&n=15684181&new Car=1&s=automotive&vehicleType=automotive
can find a new one, I had my manifold remounted and Mech placed the wrong one outside the manifold and its to long and you can not read the oil level.
As a follow-up, I crawled under the coach today (no rain ) and found that the dipstick tube section at the manifold is indeed rusty. Didn't mess with it too much but added it to the list of winter purchased for spring installation. The installation itself doesn't look too bad.

OP: You may want to do the same. If your is collapsed, that may be the issue.

Here is a photo of the rusted section followed by a photo of the joint between the upper and lower sections of the dipstick tube.

Thanks for that info vettenuts now all I need to do is find a two piece dip stick tube.
The one I had posted only looks like 1 piece.
I will add your post to the Workhorse sticky above for others because the question is going to come up again they rust out eventually.

Yes, Workhorse is a "trade name", and a totally separate company from GM. Workhorse used a lot of GM parts and designs, and many of its employees came over from GM, but it was independently owned.

I'm guessing your chassis vin # begins with a "1" and all the Workhorse RV chassis begin with a "5", and if so, you should be asking for Chevy 3500 parts.

BUT,....you're still WELCOME here

Sorry Roger, I didn't even know the tube was two parts. Not sure mine is that way, but really had no reason to look. FWIW, my DS will only go in all the way on ONE side, not the other. I assume it is because of the bend, but really don't know.

Ultra RV Products shows the lower dipstick tube in this link: Lower Dipstick Tube

They also show a couple of upper sections, not sure what the difference is. Probably would need Ultra RV to weight in with fitment.

Upper Dipstick Tube

I had seen these sections previously while shopping on their web site and as a result looked for the joint in the tube.

There are a couple of upper tubes listed with vastly different prices. Would be interested in any additional information that you find.

Also, I am glad for once I can help as you have been an invaluable source of information since I bought the coach last spring
