If a glass of water is full and you put a straw in it that is full of water, it will back flow and overflow the glass. In the case of a oil port it will flow back and the filter will overflow back into the oil pan. This will leave the oil port empty but indeed the oil filter will remain full.

I guess I'll let you answer that question. If it is that unlevel when you drain the oil how will all the old oil run out of the oil pan?

2002 Fleetwood Storm 30H on Workhorse P32 chassis 8.1 gas.
