I changed oil and filter in my MH today and, while running the engine to distribute the oil and check for leaks, I got a little hot footed.

When I tried to rev the engine over 3000 RPM it would cut back, make a sucking sort of noise - sorta reminded me of an old flat head V-8 being revved with the air filter off the carb.

Is there some sort of safety cut off that prevents someone from revving the engine over 3K?

How about the noise? Any ideas what that might be?

The engine is rev limited to 3K in Park or neutral. Don't know about the noise -- mine sounds normal ---

5000 RPM kicks in the rev 'limiter' , like an 'off now', when driving. 3000 RPM in Park or neutral sounds like a good idea tho.

I figured there was a limiter on revs in park or neutral but wanted to make sure.

The noise I described cannot be heard when driving. It might be a fan squeal or, something similar. More investigation is needed.

Freddy, I dont know why you are reving the engine while in neutral or park, , but you may want to know that few things are "harder" on an engine than doing that. Engines are designed to operate "under load", and will live much longer if not "reved" free.. The circumstances you described, also sounds as though normal operating temperature has not been reached. You are really "hammering" your engine..rgr...
