8.1L, power steering reservior internal filter ?

I probably should change out the power steering fluid as we are well over the 50 month time frame.

I did a search to see if there is an internal filter for our remote reservior and found one post for W8003092. It is on Brazel's and UltraRV websites for $67.76....but no pictures. Both have said they are pretty sure this is correct filter.

So.....anyone changed out their p/s fluid and replaced the internal filter?

Thanks

I didn't know you were supposed to change it nor did I ever hear of a filter for the power steering fluid.

However, I DO know on a Lexus RX300 they don't use power steering fluid. It uses Dexron iii transmission fluid. Just found that out a month ago.

So what type of fluid goes into the 8.1 engine power steering reservoir?

power steering filer

i purchased this filter from Ultra RV Products. They have a website and you can also purchase over the phone. Filter number is 2503221C1 and is $61 and change. I also researched online (after purchasing, unfortunately) and found cross references: Fram P8044, Luber Finer LFH4984, Wix 57191, Baldwin BT9388 and Fleetguard HF35448. Online websites offered these filters at good prices. I used the original filter number, 2503221C1, to search and found many vendor sites.

So where is it located in the system?

power steering internal filter

the filter is inside the power steering fluid reservoir. It is a spin on filter and is at the bottom, so you will need to evacuate the fluid by either sucking it out or removing the return hose and draining it

'Thanks' from me too. While I know we should replace the fluid under regular maintenance (which I admit I have not done), I never would have guessed their was a filter or where it would be located.

'Good-to-know' information. -RT

Did a Google for the Fram P8044 and picked a random link: shows a price of $14.77 and based on the posted image, it seems pretty big, but no way to reference the image and I'm not even sure how big the reservoir is. Does it sound like the correct filter, based on the price? Seems way too inexpensive compared to a couple of RV-supplier links. -RT

My two other posts in this thread have timed-out, and I can't edit either one with an additional question.

Why can't I find any information regarding a power steering filter in the Workhorse Custom Chassis manual? -RT

Power steering reservoir internal filter

Yes, that should be the filter, based on the filter number. The filter is about 3 3/8" tall and 2 5/8" diameter. About the size of an oil filter for a 4 cylinder engine.

I came across a 2009 maintenance sheet by Workhorse, their part# WSD060607. #30 says "Change Power Steering Fluid" and has a check mark in the 50/50K column. Too inept to scan and post here.

Ultrarvproducts p/n W8003092 lets you know there is an internal filter, but it does not show the actual filter. I saw, I think, and did not print out, a picture on brazel's website. It seemed to be very narrow and long, showing fabric and not encased as the usual spin-on filter.

How about some brave soul opening up their p/s reservior and advising what they find?

power steering reservoir internal filter

Well, as I have mentioned in my replies, I purchased the filter from Ultra RV Products, VIN number verified by them. It is a spin on filter and it resides in the bottom of the reservoir. It is unpainted and has slots in the top for the fluid to flow through. Previous post will give you the dimensions. I don't know what else to say. Call Ultra RV Products and you can talk to them and they will determine what filter fits your vehicle based on the VIN number.
