95 Workhorse P30 ignition / steering column problems.

New guy here. I have a 95 P30. 5.7L Vin K with 67K miles that I bought for cheap......$1200

It came with a few problems but i was willing to tackle them for that price. One was that it failed emission testing. I cleared that up with a new Cat converter and o2 sensor.

Now I am having problems with the ignition. The previous owner busted the lock mechanism on the steering column so the key lock mechanism doesnt work. I have to manually pull up on the switch rod to get it into the run position and then jump the purple starter cable to 12V so it can start.

I was wondering if anyone here has the schematic for the ignition switch wires so I can wire in a universal ignition switch to it for now until I get a new column later. below is a pic of the wires. Not sure what does what

Any help is appreciated. Thanks all

Welcome to iRV2 and the Workhorse forum. One of our best resources is OEMY, aka Dale Olson. Visit his website HERE: Oemy's Web Site - DIY Projects and scroll down to the section about your switch issues.

Also, FWIW, you have a GM/Chevy P32 chassis because WCC didn't exist before 1999 and GM / WCC never made a P30-they are ALL P32 model chassis.
Good luck with your projects! and again, WELCOME.

Thanks for the link. I've checked it out. Unfortunately doesn't specify much on what Im trying to do.

I want to get away completely from using the OEM type switch and go to a Universal ignition switch like this. If I can find the correct wiring info I should be able to wire this universal up and panel mount it.

if i cant put a universal ignition switch in it im open to rebuilding the switch in the column. So below are the parts that are broken. The actuator rack and the gear that connects to the key cylinder. what are my sources for parts?

I would think a Chevy dealer would be of help, or how about a junk yard? I know the Place I used to get keys made at sold ignitions for many different types of Autos.
If there were no P30's made how come you can find P30 Listings on almost any Auto/ Motorhome parts sites? Just curious, I have heard this before but see it all the time
